Evolve is out tomorrow, bringing what we hope is a perfectly tuned bit of monster vs hunter action. The game’s seen numerous tweaks to the game since its first alpha, and even more following the recent beta. It’ll be getting even more tweaks, tunes and rebalancing post-release – by way of, you guessed it, a rather large day one patch. Of course it is.
In a post about some big, upcoming day one changes, Turtle Rock confirmed that the game will be subject to a rather large day one patch. How large? It’s platform dependent, but should come in at around 3GB. While that’s not an especially large patch for our friends in the first world, those of us still sporting crippling connections will be upset to find that instead of jumping in to a bit of multiplayer from the onset they’ll instead be watching a download progress bar.
“What can you really add to Evolve at this point? It’s already gone gold!” This question came up a lot over the course of the Open Beta weekend in January. Truth is, that long weekend was a big learning experience for us. As a result, on day one – before you even start your first match on the live servers – we’ve made a number of refinements through a day-one patch.
The size will vary depending upon your system, but it’s about 3GB and contains the following improvements that will make your Evolve experience even better. So, before you go planet-side, make sure to grab this update.
The patch will decrease level and game loading times significantly, offer a laundry list of balancing tweaks, squash a few bugs, add support for Elite skins and enable the game to connect with the game’s companion gaming title, a rather fun match 3 game in the vein of Puzzle Quest.
You’ll need the patch to play online – but you’ll be able to play the game against the AI until it’s downloaded, so you can get to grips with the games systems.

How does a multiplayer title go gold if they haven’t fixed all that shit beforehand. Quake 3 used to have smallish patches on a regular bases vs outrageous out the box patches. Games used to still be playable out the box and running on a huge spectrum of hardware configurations.

Some of the best vocal work Hetfield has ever done and some really great music again. Lyrics can be dumb that has occasionally been a problem due to their songwriting process. St Anger wasn’t bad for me initially, bearing in mind that I was 14 years old when it came out and Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park was all the rage. So that album was pretty good…BUT then I grabbed my sisters old Metallica CD’s and started listening and my eyes opened and I realized what I’ve been missing my entire life.

Who’s in charge of giving games gold? I have no idea.
There’s a good chance I’m just ignorant here, but if it’s anyone who gets profit from pre-orders I’d call that a breach of ethics no?
Skyblue
February 9, 2015 at 08:51
It is better implementation of patching to let players actually play the game (albeit against AI) while the game is still busy downloading. Think I’ll still just adopt the wait and see as I do with every new title released these days.
By the time we have decent broadband in SA we won’t have any power anyway.

February 9, 2015 at 09:43
Well, as someone who sort of makes a living off making products, you need to go “gold” or live as soon as possible. There is a balance to be struck between making a product that can sell, and will not annoy the consumers. ALSO no comebacks in a year, that sort of thing. Not an easy decision.
That said, it does sound like they have circumvented their own process a bit.
Raptor Rants A Lot:Original #7
