It’s been a couple of months since Guild Wars 2, the subscription-less MMO that has developed a sizeable fan base. Thing is, by now most people have completed various quests, with several characters already. So they need some new content. Well, don’t count on that happening anytime soon, as there are zero expansions planned for Guild Wars 2 at the moment.
Speaking to IGN, game director Colin Johanson explained that the focus right now was on the live experience of the game, and that developer ArenaNet couldn’t afford to distract themselves with extra content work of that scale. Not yet anyway. "Expansions are definitely something that we’ll potentially look at in the future," Johanson said.
We don’t have a timetable on it. We’re open to it, but I think our major focus as a studio is making the living world concept as strong as possibly can for the players that we’ve got.
Guild Wars Uno had three expansive packs released for that game, and with the possibility of an extra payday, it’s not too far-fetched to imagine ArenaNet eventually developing that kind of new content. Content that will grow the game into an inevitable sequel, Johanson explained;
We want to be able to have teams that are literally developing new, innovative features that change the way that you play our game and grow that experience so it literally feels like you don’t leave Guild Wars 2; Guild Wars 2 becomes Guild Wars 2.5 or Guild Wars 3 and it continues to grow.
What do you think? Is Guild Wars 2 still exciting enough to warrant playtime at the moment, or are you bored of certain active events already?
Because he's the writer that Lazygamer deserves, but not the one it actually needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can't take it. Because he's not a hero. He's a loud-mouthed journalist, a watchful procrastinator. A dork knight.
