New StarCraft 2 World Champion

SOs starcraft 2

Over at BlizzCon, the StarCraft 2 championships took place this weekend. As you might expect, the two finalists were Korean, as Kim “sOs” Yoo Jin took on fan favorite Jae Dong for the prize of $100k and the title of World Champion.

Going to five games, Jae Dong simply could not overpower sOs, who took the series 4-1. You can watch the final match here:

Maybe it’s due to some awkward shout casting, or maybe it’s because StarCraft 2 just doesn’t have the same spectator value of the team-based eSports, but it seems like this isn’t as electric as The International or ESWC. The crowd that attended at BlizzCon is certainly amped to watch the match, but that energy simply isn’t as contagious as I’ve seen in covering other matches. Or maybe it’s just because the fan favorite didn’t end up winning the thing?

I just still can’t get over how fast StarCraft 2 players are. As reported, professional players can get up to 500-600 actions per minute, which is ten actions per second. That is insanely fast, and accurate. I know MOBA and FPS eSports athletes are also quick and precise, but this just blows my mind. How slow would I seem to them?

Are you a StarCraft 2 fan? Is this your eSport of choice?

Many of the pros develop issues with their wrists which leads to them having to retire. The most successful SC2 player to date ‘MVP’ has been plagued by issues with his wrists for a long time now.

And lets be fair, The spectator value is dependent on the person watching. If you don’t dig Dota you wont enjoy it hence why I don’t watch Dota and prefer SC2 and find following the scene much easier…

Ye mvp is not the most successful sc2 player. It used to be MC but Jaedong surpassed him with his Blizzcon earnings.

Actually MVP IS the most successful SC2 player to date holding the most amount of premier championships including 4 GSL first place finishes.

MC only has the highest earnings and that in no way makes him the better player.

    SC2 is dying/dead.

SCBW is more popular in S.Korea than SC2.

Please don’t comment on the scene when you don’t know anything about it. Currently Broodwar is no longer played and the Proleague in Korea moved over to SC2. BW is only played in small tournaments and by a couple of old pros trying to hold onto it…

I played SC when it was originally released (yeah 20 years back) and SC2 during beta. As a casual (one of those guys with an actual job, wife, kids etc) I was ranked top 20 in SA and skype buddies with a well known European pro. Yeah… I know little about the game. Would you like to see my replays with DeMuslim?

SC2 has struggled in popularity, losing sponsors, events, teams, casters and pro’s, particularly so after the failure, yes failure of HotS. Blizzard has NOT EVEN releasing sales figures for HotS, eight months after release is bad, really bad.

SCBW IS more popular in SK than SC2, even if the SC2 Pro scene enjoys more attention currently. Heck, even Warcraft 3 is more popular than SC2 in SK. A game that enjoyed domination in e-sports in SK is currently a joke. LotV will have even worst sales figures and with Pardo not involved in design, but D.B, its doomed to even further failure.

Pro’s are (eventually) coming to the realisation that e-sports does not hold a long term future. Just ask Idra, Stephano, even Grubby is not earning what he use to.

      Only fanboys remain.

15 years, 8 months. Round it up if you need.

Fact is no-one gives a royal, particularly not if being crowned the best player in the world lands you all of $100K. The worst player in the NHL earns at least 500K per year and has a far longer career.

          E-Sports is a joke.

Havok: Developers will Soon Use All RAM of PS4 and Xbox One

More than a month has passed since the Xbox One and PS4 were launched, but gamers still have doubts whether memory will be sufficient to last an entire generation. 5GB of RAM is allocated to Xbox One. As for PS4, we are still not sure. Earlier, it was rumored that PS4 has a 5.5 GB of RAM. Recently, Havok’s Head of Product Management Andrew Bowell said that developers will soon use all of the memory no matter how much RAM the two consoles have.

“Developers have long dreamt about more RAM. RAM has been so scarce over the last 20 years in console hardware that I feel many prayers have been answered this time around However it will take absolutely no time for artists to use all available RAM, even 8 GB, you can be sure of that,” he said to GamingBolt.
