New Arkham Game coming this year

During a financial call to investors last week, licence holder Warner Brothers confirmed that there’d be a new Batman game bearing the “Arkham” mantle coming later this year. While that may sound like good news, don’t get excited just yet.

“And we also have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise,” Warner said to investors. “So all in all, we expect Warners to post another very strong year in 2013. And with a little luck, the year should be as good or maybe even a little bit better than 2012.”

So why the warning to rein in your excitement? Some sources say the game won;t quite be what you’re expecting – and instead of the gritty modern take on the man with pointy rubber ears and a cape, it’ll instead be set in Batman’s “Silver Age“ (1956 to c.1970) when Batman first started chumming it up with Superman, the Flash and the other men in tights who’d eventually become known as the Justice League.

The other possibility is the setting expanding even further; earlier this year Warner registered a number of Arkham related domains – including a number that mention Arkham Universe. That in itself isn’t something to be concerned about – but the fact that it won’t be developed by series stalwarts Rocksteady is.

While I adored Arkham Aslylum for making me really feel like Batman, I didn’t quite like Arkham City as much. I don’t know why, but for all its size and scope it just felt like it had been watered down a bit. Am I alone?

Was between that and Portal 2. And it was late, and I knew that once I put on the cape, I would not sleep until all evil has been vanquished

Good man, good man. So, last night, you were not the man that Gotham needed, because you wanted to sleep…

Nee wat tjomma. Its a awesome game and will definitely be worth the hours you spent in it. AA was a masterpiece and comparing it too any other batman game will leave you dissapointed, even though it was from the same developer.

I agree… I really liked AA – almost felt like a Metal Gear Solid game. AC is a great game, but I get frustrated with having to spend half of the game gliding to some building. (I suppose that’s why I’m not a big fan of the GTA games)

I enjoyed both, but zooming around Arkham City made me feel a bit more like Batman because of the semi-random events like responding to attacks & stuff.

Nope, you’re right, I also loved Arkham Asylum but got tired of Arkham City pretty quickly, didn’t even end up finishing the game. I hated the Catwoman bits.

Too much of a goo thing is bad, look how “a certain company” destroyed the guitar hero franchise…

You are not alone Sir Geoffrey. I also didn’t really get the same “woohoo I’m batman bitches” feeling from City.
