Rivals

It’s a new year for gaming with the next-gen consoles on the way, and a perfect time to start a new franchise or two. Or continue an annual one with a new tag at least. EA has such a game in mind, as Need for Speed returns with a tire on those next-gen devices, as well as current-gen ones.

The latest NFS game is being handled by a brand new studio this year, Ghost Games. Criterion, who have developed the last couple of NFS games, will also be helping out Ghost Games with the project.

Rivals also uses the Frostbite 3 engine, and will combine the “intensity of the street’s ultimate rivalry between cops and racers,” according to the press release. Yeah. More importantly, it’s another open world racing game, but one where driving recklessly can pay off.

Such high stakes actions will allow players to earn Speedpoints, which can be used to unlock content, but the more you earn, the more the cops want to take you down. Players can choose to drive as either law breaking street racers or police offers, with law-enforcing gamers needing to work as a team in order to take down their rivals.

According to the press release, here’s what else you can expect inside the game:

  • Next-Gen Racing – Redview County is brought to life with stunning, next-generation detai.l
  • Need for Speed Network Powered by Autolog – Gamers can compare stats and challenge their friends anytime, anywhere and then easily share their accomplishments with both friends and rivals.
  • Personalization – Drivers customize their ride with fresh paintjobs, custom license plates, liveries decals and rims, as well as performance upgrades.
  • Pursuit and Evasion Tech – White-knuckle racing explodes with 11 upgradeable gadgets including turbo boosts, jammers and EMPs for racers, and shockwaves, roadblocks and helicopters for cops.

Here’s one aspect of the game that should make petrolheads happy: Ferrari is making a return after a seven year absence from the game. That includes getting behind the wheel of one of the sexiest cars from that brand, the F12 Berlinetta.

It’s out November 19, on Xbox One, Playstation 4 and the rest of the current generation. Except Wii U probably, because screw those guys and their love for gamers.

  1. Need for Speed is getting ridiculous now… they’re trying to make it like their sports games… a release or two a year.

It didnt mentioned any body kits included though. So i think its just the paintjobs and rims with decals. Oh and performance enhancements.

If they keep on releasing all the games on the PS3 and Xbox 360, why will we be buying the new consoles? If Watchdogs was exclusive for the new consoles, I would buy one…. But as it stands now, I am more than happy with what this gen consoles can do…. And more importantly what it can’t do, like all that overly social shit!!!

Stock exotic cars, boring. Slap some custom body kits with a tuned engine and some neat wheels on and you have a deal.
