1313 The Last of Us 4

The PS4 remaster of last year’s much lauded PS3 game, The Last of Us, has been released and getting plenty of critical acclaim again. While fans of the series and those who missed it on PS3 are sure to love it, many felt it was just a ploy to grab more money. However, it actually was beneficial for developers in a way money can’t buy.

Speaking to CVG, community strategist Arne Meyer explained that part of why the remaster was green lit was to help accelerate the studio’s technical knowledge of the PS4.

We’re always building on top of what we’ve done previously, and The Last of Us Remastered is probably one of the more concrete examples in a way. We’re making this in a way that benefits our PS4 tools pipeline so that we can have a good head start on our next, full PS4 game.

[…] There were a couple of reasons that we decided to do it and one was that we thought back to when we had to build an engine from scratch when moving between PS2 and PS3 – that was a really painful time for the studio and we wanted to avoid that with PS4.

Nothing helps a transition between consoles more than making a full game, because you learn so much about what you need for tools.

This certainly makes a lot of sense – it takes time to learn the best practices for developing on specific platforms; just look at how long it took for developers to learn how to take full advantage of the PS3’s architecture. If this remastered edition helps speed up development on Uncharted 4 or future projects, it is certainly worthwhile. Perhaps this is a better approach for studios – take your most ambitious game for the PS3 and figure out how to make it work on PS4 (the same would be true for Xbox 360 to Xbox One). By doing this, you expand the new console libraries, help boost sales, and ensure that your team knows what they’re doing when they make their next “fully new generation console” game.

Time to ditch the PS4 and Master the art of the Master Race Masterfully!

In short. PC version of TLoU NOW!

If they struggle to master one form of architecture, just imagine how difficult it is to program for Pc’s, they don’t look the same they don’t act the same. Then there is the fight between AMD and Nvidia of who is king.

Ya building the game on PC wont be the hard part since every console game is developed on PC’s. Catering for the low end to the high end PC’s at the same time is the hard part.

Not exactly true. you pretty much have to deal with 4 basic things (6 if you count architecture but really who still games on 32 bit these days) AMD,INTEL,AMD and Nvidia. Also most engines account for these things already. You could very well port the whole game to say the Frostbite engine easy enough withing a few months. The reason they don’t is cause they are owned by Sony (bastards).

Obviously they don’t want to develop on an inferior platform

I seriously wanted to look at owning a XBOX as well, but the WIIU has me doubting my choice at the moment. Plus Destiny is the new Halo (apparently)

Destiny truly is the new Multiplat Halo, the look and feel of it is 100% Halo! Just add some customization and all the Halo haters are suddenly huge fans! ????

I never hated Halo, I just could never play it. But that’s good to know. Then I’d rather buy a WIIU

Apparently Mario Kart 8 is awesome. Then all the Mario and Zelda games they have makes me very nostalgic. I’m sure there’s more I just cant recall at the moment

I am getting it, did not play it before the price is less than a normal game and include the DLC’s and some other extras so it is actually a good buy.
Destiny is the new Halo so that will be my shooter of choice

Why are TLOU Remastered and other PS3 exclusive remakes being made?

      1. financing for next gen projects
      2. experience on next gen hardware to better create next gen projects
      3. at least half of PS4 owners didn’t own a PS3 which is a huge brand new audience
      4. many PS3 exclusive games were critically acclaimed and sold well
      5. there are already plenty of new IPs being created
      6. assets made for late PS3 games are often higher quality than what goes into the PS3 version

TLOU is practically a new game to at least half (~4.3 million) of PS4 owners that never owned a PS3 and never had a chance to play it. Same with Beyond: Two Souls or any PS3 exclusive game brought to PS4.

TLOU is one of the most critically acclaimed video games ever and sold 7+ million copies on PS3, it’s coming with DLC and multiplayer, 1080p 60 fps with better textures and visual effects, and releasing at a discount price.

Millions of gamers will buy and enjoy TLOU Remastered. Sorry if that upsets some fanboys and haters.

Multiple people with leaked retail copies have confirmed the framerate is a solid 60 fps with few drops.

1080p/60 FPS in single player and multiplayer.
Texture maps are 4x more detailed. Shadow maps 2x.
      Higher resolution particle effects.
      Occlusion mapping on decals.
      No texture streaming.
      Longer draw distances, better LOD
      Expanded audio menu options.
Possibility to lock frame rate at 30 FPS.
Possibility to swap trigger and thumbsticks controls.
DualShock 4 touch pad, light bar and speaker supported.
Cinematics with commentary by Neil Druckmann, Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson.

R550 for digital, or you can purchase off Kalahari and use the R100 voucher (code is DEAL100) for a total of R499 :D. Also opens up the possibility for resale later.
