Battlefield (3)

Whoa there Call of Duty! You can’t have all the multiplayer glory this week! What about lil’ ol’ Battlefield 4 huh? Why, there are tens of people who also demand info based on that upcoming game!

And that’s just what you’ll be getting right now. The Battlefield 4 blog has detailed just how you’ll be loading up in the upcoming sequel, and how each of your future corpses are going to look totally different.

Battlefield 4?s multiplayer classes have received some load-out tweaking. Get your first glimpse of the improved Support, Recon, Assault and Engineer classes here.

DICE’s core gameplay designer Alan Kertz explained on the blog that each class would have Russian, Chinese and US variants and that each one of those soldiers had a different look to them. In fact, if you’re used to Battlefield 3, then you might feel at home with these classes, because that’s where they’ve been built up from. Only with more flexibility for Battlefield 4.

Battlefield (2)

“This time around the Engineer has a lot more variation in anti-vehicle weapons. We’ve also revamped the way we do vehicle disables and guided weapon systems to give the Engineer a broader set of tactics at his disposal,” Kertz said on the blog.

This includes everything from high damage weapons that may be more challenging to use (like RPG-7V2) to fire-and-forget smart weapons with low damage (like the MBT LAW), and the fan favorite Wire Guided Engineer Missile (the FGM-172 SRAW) that you might recognize from Battlefield 2.

Kertz also said that the support class would have more offensive options in BF4, C4 and claymore mines would be back and that a new remote mortar device would be taking out enemies from a distance:

Will retain his C4 and Claymores from Battlefield 3. The XM25 gives him some nice indirect suppressive fire, a redesigned remote mortar allows him to use indirect fire from a distance, and the ability to equip carbines and DMRs gives him an added versatility in combat roles.

The Recon class will be more mobile in BF4, and will be a specialist class according to Kertz. They’ll be able to use equipment that helps them slip in behind enemy lines:

Recon has gotten a much needed boost to mobility, as well as the return of the Spec Ops play style from Battlefield 2. Pack a carbine, C4 (or Claymores), and Motion Sensors and you’re good to go behind enemy lines. Fans of more traditional sniping roles will enjoy our revamped sniping mechanics with rebalanced Sniper Rifles, the ability to zero your sights (set an aiming distance), and additional optics and accessories. Finally, the Recon players can still utilize the MAV, T-UGS, and Radio Beacon to help out their team.

Battlefield (1)

As for assault, expect that to still be a heavy hitter, as Kertz explained that those soldiers would be “the frontline run-and-gun kit that also serves the role of combat medic. This was one of the major changes in Battlefield 3 compared to Battlefield 2, and one that players have really appreciated.”

Assault is still the go-to kit with med kits and defibrillators but has picked up some additional mobility with the First Aid Pack, which heals a single soldier over time, or the 40mm Flash Bang rounds to help clear rooms.

All these character class changes are based on fan feedback according to DICE. What do you think though, does it change the game enough for you?

  1. Why do these type of games have the same type of classes. Please tell me I’m not the only one that thinks this is very uninspired ….

Don’t know really, maybe a class that specializes in biological warfare, some poison traps. or a saboteur that has stealth techniques but can’t kill anyone, so he disarms enemy traps or causes distractions to the enemy. sounds dumb, but yeah lol

They have those generic types of classes because that’s what works :).
That and Battlefield is ‘closer’ to a realism simulator than games like CoD. You destroy the realism touch if you add unrealistic classes to the game.

Meh , I will just say I don’t understand the appeal, there are people the like it, that is cool, I won’t infringe on that. just to me, changing it a lil will be nice, as it just seems like the same thing all the time

Well am I wrong if I say they are now recognized as an assault class, not a medic class?
Having medical benefits just adds to the class.

Yeah … can add a Rambo class who specialise in bow-and-arrow and big-ass knives… or a Drone operator class who camps in corner of stage and attacks you with army robot things from safety … the hormonal-teen-trolls will LURV that class ! 😀

      Same four classes for dogs
Support = St. Bernard / Bernese mountain dog with med packs / drums of whiskey around their necks.
Assault = Rottweiller, Doberman, Pitbull etc.
Recon = Chihuahua …… too small for enemy to notice or take seriously. annoying bark ability can cause distraction for team.
annnnd … Engineer class = Border Collie … coz those things be super smart ! haha

Anyone think back to Sniper/Claymore combo from BF2 that everyone hated but was so damn effective. I remember this one round on Sharqi at TV station, 3 guys dominated from the roof with just claymores, medic and support. NSD FTW!
