Local Battlefield tournament going big

While we’re excited to be organizing our first ever COD tournament, other people have been in the tournament organizing game for a lot longer. Semper Vincemus Gaming (SVG) is one such organizer, and their local tournament sounds really awesome. There’s even a cool local reason that you should watch the games.

All this week, former 702 presenter Captain Jakes will be shout casting the games every night. Yes, this tournament is extremely popular – 28 teams signed up for a chance to win R8 000. You can check the log over here. There are the usual BF4 teams, as well as some lesser known clans. It looks like there will be some cool games to watch, especially if they’re getting the local celebrity treatment.

Of course you will want to watch the Twitch streams, especially for the finals taking place on Saturday. Right? Here’s the channel so you can tune in and catch all the awesome Battlefield pew pewing. It’s great to see a local tournament with this much money and some cool shout casting behind it. If you’re curious about how good our local talent is, you’ll definitely want to watch these games.

And you won’t be alone. The streams are averaging about 2k viewers – that’s quite a bunch of people who are tuned in to local eSports. It’s growing, I tell you. Now if only my internet were fast enough to stream all my own gaming shenanigans.

[Update] Ed: The stream has a total of 2000 views, not averaging 2000 views. Apologies for the mix up, Zoe will be hunted down and shot.

The thing is that it’s 2000 views on his channel for the entire channel’s lifetime, so in context of an article talking specifically about the SvG cup, it would be only a portion of that. You could ask Captainjakes to check his channel stats to get figures.

Yes resolution is a problem at the moment if you have a 10 Meg line the upload speed will only be about 500 to 600 Max kb/s for streaming so not much space for a perfect stream but on Saturday 24 at Compuport the streaming will be 16 meg up and about 60 down. These streams are just a tees for the big event on Saturday.

SA 10 meg line can only support an upstream of 500 too 600 kb/s. So yes it is a problem to get the perfect stream out there for streamers in SA. How ever this Saturday the streams will be using an upload of 16 meg and download of about 60 meg. So expect a much better stream on the main event this Saturday from about 9 am. Its gonna be fun.

Jakes, just remember that not all viewers in SA can handle a very high quality stream. I stream on a 40mb line (3mb upload) but only use roughly a 1000-1100 bitrate for match streams, otherwise too many people buffer. (I think this is an okay mid-point, sacrificing some quality for maximum viewability) Theoretically I could be streaming anywhere from 1600-2000.

Did you have a prize for the winning team?
Did you have a dedicated streamer?
Did You make a full day of the semi and finals that players could attend to meet each other and watch the semi and finals?
Did you put in the effort to get people to wright about and promote your competition not just for your clan but to help E Sports in SA?

Q: Does it matter if it was hosted after yours?
A: No, we are glad that their tournament went and is going well, and we are glad we sort of set a trend with mini comps, as there is now a third clan doing it as well. It is good for us in the community to involve all. Also, look at my reply above, I had a brain fart and didn’t finish what I was thinking to write.

Q: Did you have a prize for the winning team?
A: Yes we had prizes for the winning team. We also had a prize for a player of the series that we had our caster choose.

QDid you have a dedicated streamer?
A: Yes we had a streamer, but all depended on ESKOM/TELKOM at the time, as there was alot of load shedding going on then.

Q: Did You make a full day of the semi and finals that players could attend to meet each other and watch the semi and finals?
A: We had a full day planned, however since our clan is all over the country, and not one specifically has great internet or a physical shop to do the event, and we did everything out of pocket except a few prizes, which made no physical venue. Load shedding and internet also made the Semi’s and Finals get postponed till all had power and internet.

Q: Did you put in the effort to get people to wright about and promote your competition not just for your clan but to help E Sports in SA?
A: Yes, Zombiegamer writes and promote all our mini comps, tournaments, even about the Gaming for Cansa we are running on 1 Feb 2015.

Crawl before you walk, start small and then go big not that this is a small tournament at all R 8000.00 aint small money so I am proud to be part of this movement to get esports out there and let the world know we South Africans are contenders to be reckoned with. Standby for big things coming..

2,201 total views and 25 + on the live views currently when a match is played, streamed,. As this is not the actual event the main will be held on Saturday with a 16 meg upstream line giving the public a much better stream we expect a lot more live viewers on from about 9 am Saturday morning.
