The Witcher 3 is going to be 1080p on the PlayStation 4, and 900p on the Xbox One. That’s caused quite a bit of consternation in the console camp – all while PC watch from their ivory towers. According to developer CD Projekt RED though, the discrepancy between the resolutions doesn’t make a difference.
Now despite the differences, CD Projekt RED has been showing the game off on both platforms at recent trade events and conventions. Why? They’re proud of what they’ve done – and don’t believe that the difference is worth fussing over, negligible as it is.
“The answer is simple, we’re very confident of what we’ve managed to achieve. The Witcher is simply a good game, regardless of the platform you choose to play it on,” Michal Krzeminski, Senior Art Producer said to GamingBolt when asked why they were showing the technically inferior Xbox One version.
When it comes down to the actual experience, the resolution doesn’t matter.
“You noted that we’ve shown the game on all platforms]. We did this also to show that there’s little difference between 1080p and 900p in terms of the actual experience you get. These numbers are just numbers, it’s the adventure and thrill you get from playing the game that counts,” he added.
“We don’t think like that. When you have a vision to create an RPG that will leave a long lasting impression, you don’t think in terms of resolution or frame rate. You think of adventure, you think of living worlds, and the stuff you’ll be able to do in that world. Technical aspects are kind of secondary, which of course doesn’t mean that we don’t want the graphics to be awesome,” Michal said of the frame rate.
The Witcher then, is all about the experience.And, depending on your platform of choice, that experience may or may not be a little bit fuzzier. Here are two shiny new screens, that aren’t 900p.

When it comes to Ubisoft titles on PC, I look at the system requirements. I get to the line where it says “uPlay required”, and I stop right there.
I don’t even get as far as performance specs…..

I have to admit, I don’t mind Origin. It’s learned that I don’t want much to do with it, and sits there quietly and shuts the fuck up.
I literally only ever have to look at Origin whenever I install a game, and then never again afterwards, unless I want to. And they give me free stuff from time to time, some of which has actually been pretty decent.
uPlay though? “Before you launch our game, here’s 3 pages of us pimping our stupid and useless store at you! PLEASE BUY OUR SHIT! Oh, and in case you didn’t pay attention when you launched the game, we’ll go through this again when you close it.”

Can somebody with both consoles actually offer an opinion as to how noticeable the difference is between 1080p & 900p? Because I really can’t imagine it’s significant at all, and the times I’ve seen something running on an XBox, even on big 55″ tvs at Makro & so on, the visuals have been very nice indeed.

I don’t have a console but my pc is plugged into my 55″ smart tv. I have done tests where I changed the resolution and honestly there is very little difference. You’ll have to literally sit and concentrate on looking for faults to see the difference which is in the jaggies.

By way of perspective, I grew up with, and started my PC gaming “career” on, a 1987 IBM PC XT clone.
It ran at 12Mhz, had 640Kb of RAM, a 20Mb HDD. And 4 colour CGA graphics that displayed at 640×480 on a truly awful 13″ monochrome monitor
And that machine was a *beast* for the time, let me tell you.
Before that, from around 1977 or so till I got the PC described above, I had a BBC Model B, then a Master 128, and I’ll let you Google those to see what they were.
So the whole resolution “debate” between the PS4 & XBone? For me it’s an amusing example of how stupid and pointless “fanboi-ism” is. I just look back at what home gaming started with, then look at what we have now, and what’s coming.
And I laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh, and am so damn happy and grateful to see how far my chosen hobby has come, and how fucking awesome it is, on any platform**.
I even kinda feel sorry for the “youngsters” who haven’t got that perspective, but I guess they’ll say similar things at some point, to the next generation.
(**it’s best on PC though :P)

Unless Microsoft cuts some deal with game companies to drop their prices by $10 or more upon a game’s release (e.g., PS4 version $60–Xbox One version $50), I pick up multiplatform titles on the system where the “difference” showcases the game the best.

I’m fine with the 900p resolution on the x box one. I own a ps4 also but I prefer my one as the console I buy all cross platform games for. There is going to be no difference for me. My collector edition comes with a few extra things for the one than the ps4 anyways so no big deal.
