LEGO Marvel’s Avengers are assembling six films worth of content

Lego-avengers

LEGO games always leave me divided, like a Jean Claude Van Damme split-kick attack. On the one hand, if you’ve played one of them, you’ve played all of them. On the other hand Darryn, there’s not a single game franchise out there that even comes close to emulating the reverence towards the source property that LEGO has for their games.

LEGO games manage to pack in all manner of references, Easter eggs and sly digs into a licensed title, the kind of content that only the most dedicated of fans will appreciate, with the rest of it clearly going over the heads of the kids that these titles are aimed at.

Hell, LEGO Batman 3 had me fanboying proper at times, with Adam West wandering around and quoting lines from the classic Batman TV series. I love stuff like that. I can’t even complain that much, that the games offer buggerall differences between sequels or franchises.

Because they’re not meant for adults. They’re meant for children. And as we all know, kids are stupid. Don’t worry kids, you’ll later grow up to be both old and stupid, with crippling debt. Being an adult is fun!

Anyway, I’m getting side-tracked a bit. The next LEGO game is a sequel of sorts to LEGO Marvel Superheroes, dubbed LEGO Marvel’s Avengers. It’s pretty much a highlight reel of not only the two Avenger movies, but a few other ones as well. Here’s the full list of the six films that make up the story content of the game:

  • Captain America: The First Avenger
  • Avengers
  • Thor: The Dark World
  • Iron Man 3
  • Captain America: The Winter Soldier
  • Avengers: Age of Ultron

That’s a collection of films with at least two massive world-threatening portals, two Tom Hiddleston appearances, 53 Iron Men and one instance of the Hulk proper P-klapping a mouthy Asgardian through a floor. Puny god.

I pretty much know that I’ll be playing the same game of smash, collect and construct yet again in LEGO Marvel’s Avengers. But I’m still keen to see the LEGO touch on all six films when the game is out on January 26.

  1. I quite enjoyed the LEGO Marvel Heroes game. It was probably the best attempt at a proper Marvel game yet where you actually have full freedom, vertically and horizontally.
Now if only Marvel could get their sh&# together and make a decent Iron Man game.

Agreed – really enjoyed LEGO Marvel Heroes – it was the superhero game I’d wanted for ages, just in Lego form. This looks like more of the same – it just looks fun! Will definitely give it a go.

I’m still playing Marvel Heroes Online a little bit. But as a top-down MMO it gets really repetitive really quickly.
