Last week Friday I posted up an article giving a few stats on how the PS4 CoD tournament went and put up a straw poll for voting on the next tournament. The vote was put there for 2 reasons:
- Gauge what people are interested in for possible future tournaments
- Get more involvement from the Gaming Community
The last thing I expected was for it to devolve into a battle of consoles between the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 and rather very silent PC community. So what happened?
Xbox One vs PS4
Over the course of the weekend I received a number of messages of support and arguments over the console battle for a CoD tournament. F34R_DR3W made a YouTube video about it to highlight the Xbox communities plea.
Firstly, I do agree with the Xbox one community that CoD eSports tournaments should be held to the international standard for competing. At the same time I agree with the PS4 players that they have the numbers and are neglected by current Tournament and League organizers because it’s not the international standard. So where does it leave us?
The Decision
I am actually surprised by the results and expected a PC game to win the vote. It was advertised as much as possible to the PC community but it got almost zero traction for votes. Maybe it’s because they have too many tournaments already and they not interested in another?
Nonetheless after 563 votes with 198 for another PS CoD tournament and 165 for an Xbox one tournament. It’s been decided that we shall actual host a tournament for both consoles. That said it will require a bit more planning and organizing behind the scenes to pull it off. So with a bit of patience, Lazygamer will announce a tournament for the whole CoD community.
Just as a side note I also recommend that the CoD community watch VnCo_CS1977 “The Boss” 50 Shades of Pro YouTube video. It’s a bit long but he makes a lot of good points.

For tourneys to work you need those adrenaline-fuelled moments. CoD delivers the most bang for your buck in that regard, regardless of how generic their designs have become. Sad but true.

Dat 2K tournament in six hours? There were a lot of teams in the last tourney but not that many. Why is it not possible to host a tournament over a long weekend if announced three months in advance. Give the teams enough time to organize themselves? PS tourney on Saturday and XBOX on Sunday or vice a versa?

Would love to know as well. One of the Dota guys told me they too busy with DGL and they actually flooded with tournaments and awesome prizes already. So to fit another one in is apparently asking to much. Dunno what happened with CS:GO or Hearthstone or LoL?

It would have been nice to have another tournament first but since there was next to no participation from the PC community, we have another 2 CoD tournaments. Hopefully next time more people will vote

Firstly, I’d like to thank everyone and @Guild for organizing a winner COD tournament.
Now, I’d like to suggest the NEXT vote not have COD as an option at all, personally I believe MK X or even Hearthstone would be a refreshing change from a COD tournament or another COD tournament or even a COD tournament.
I saw what happened with this vote in the background, peeps trying to push their version of COD by voting multiple times from different platforms, in the end I don’t believe the vote was truly representative of our community.
But I do hope the tournament is a success and frankly finishes up quickly so we can get it over with and see some diversity in eSports (NOT DOTA!)

After these 2 CoD tournaments we will see what to host next. Problem is we need buy in from the community to enter and make it a justified tournament. It would be a waste for sponsors and us if we host a tournament with say 5 entries. Hence the voting was too see where the community lies with the most interest. Currently with a CoD tournament we are guaranteed to get more than enough participants to justify a tournament.
