I don’t have to tell you how jealous I am of Geoff and Darryn while they’re in LA, getting sore feet from walking amongst all the awesomeness. E3 is definitely gamer Mecca, and I hope to get there one day. For now, I will have to be content with what’s happening in South Africa. And there’s an event coming up 31 August that I think could be cool – might even get me to leave my usual stomping grounds!
Geek Fest looks like a fun day, brought to you by The Dark Carnival. There will be cosplay, pet parade (read: pet cosplay), a beer garden and a Star Wars Marathon. Beyond that, there will be a market – plenty of stallholders with a variety of items.
Truly, the part Gavin and I are really excited about – ROBOT WARS! Yes, that’s right, robot wars. Could there possibly be anything cooler? You can build your own robot and take it into the battle area. Epic!
Other activities include medieval fighting and LARP demos, Magic: The Gathering tournaments, an Injustice tournament, music from bands and DJs and a kid’s corner with jumping castle and face painting.
Look, it won’t be E3, but it still sounds like fun. Personally, I see nothing wrong with dressing up, getting some drinks at a beer garden and watching the robot wars. Sounds like a pretty cool way to spend a Saturday. Check out the Facebook event page here. You can buy tickets online or at the door – R50 at the door for adults and R25 for kids.

Or make an apple version, irobot, claim it is better and give it commands once it eventually connects through itunes… And make sure that it only works if it is given commands doing it your way…. Highlight two features already used in other robots give it a different name and patent it as a new technology… Then sue the other robots out of competition…
