Is Xbox finally allowing us to change regions?

A constant complaint that we receive here at Lazygamer is that the South African Xbox marketplace isn’t up to scratch compared to the worldwide stores and even the local PSN store. But a lot of people are stuck using it still.

For some obscure reason once you choose a region for your Xbox Live account you are stuck with it for life. If you move countries and want to experience their Xbox Live marketplace you need to phone Microsoft and it can take up to 6 weeks to transfer your region.

Not quite the slick software move you would expect from a software company, however that may all be about to change.

According to Neowin Microsoft have been trialling a new system that allows you to change regions with the click of a button but only once every 3 months.

It is also very important to remember that if you are a subscriber to a paid service and you change regions to an area where that service is not supported you will lose your subscription and you will not be eligible for a refund.

This would be a god send for the locals who are stuck in the local Microsoft store who want to play The Walking Dead.

However we will hopefully not require this in a few weeks as Microsoft South Africa are working exceptionally hard to fix the local problems and we will have more on that soon. But at least know the local issues aren’t from a lack of trying or desire from Microsoft South Africa or even international and a solution is in the pipeline.
