Six South Africans will start a season of Formula 1 simulation racing this Friday in an international tournament, braving it against some serious business drivers from all over the world.

The guys over at East Rand Racing have decided to enter this international racing tournament called IRON F.Reiza Championship and commit to it for the next couple of months. So far two of the South African drivers have been showing dominance right from the start during practise sessions, topping the leaderboards in the number one and two spots. Team mates Riaan Lamprecht and Dewald Nel continue to prove why we should be seen as serious contenders. Most of you won’t know what the game or tournament is all about, so I’m going to give you some info.

Game played: Game Stock Car 2012

Game Stock Car is the official game of the main Brazilian autoracing series – an evolution from the original Game Stock Car, released in 2011. Developed by Reiza Studios with the support of actual teams and drivers, Game Stock Car 2012 accurately simulates the series´ 2012 season, with 32 cars and teams racing around the country in 12 minutely modelled race tracks.

Combining the best in simulation technology with first-class gameplay, Game Stock Car 2012 expands and improves on the basis of the original – new cars, new tracks, more content – to grant the most accurate simulation in an unrivalled racing experience.

Class Played: Formula Reiza

Formula Reiza is a true “Formula 1” simulation, from car setups to vehicle damage and tracks. Players put many hours into perfecting every single aspect of the game.

All the information about the league including the schedule and event times, rules and points scoring can be found here.

Racing is a much underappreciated eSport in our country as well as others, but we support it all the same. There are a couple of gamers competing locally in the Do Gaming League Forza 4 and Gran Turismo 5 leagues and other racing solo in international competitions. If there are any other South Africans competing internationally, and would like to let us know about it. Please email me at yolanda@lazygamer.net.
