Indie Zoe: Raider of the Lost News (10 April 2014)

Cartoon indie zoe

Some of the news in this article takes me back to August of last year, when Indie Zoe was still a new thing. Can you believe how time has gone screaming past? April is such a write-off of a month, and once it’s over, we will be a third of the way through 2014. I suppose I’d better get to telling you the news, before life flashes before our eyes.

First up, I told you about Prisonscape last year August. Back then, all we knew was that it was an adventure RPG with an aesthetic inspired by Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy. It takes place in prison (as the name would imply) and it’s all about surviving incarceration. Well, now it’s on Greenlight – the game will be coming to PC, Mac and Linux. I love the idea that you can craft items (like shivs) and even snitch to the guards. Sounds really clever. Please also consider throwing money at their Kickstarter if you’ve ever dreamed of playing an HBO OZ game with Chrono Trigger-esque imagery. Here’s the game trailer that shows off some of their really cool soundtrack:

Good news for local indies – Broforce made it to Steam Early Access and is currently #16 on the Steam best-sellers list. To add to the awesome, Viscera Cleanup Detail debuted on Steam Early Access and is also in the top 20 (#18) of Steam top sellers. Well done local developers – you are clearly making games that people want.

Rather than telling you about the cool indie bundles on sale at the moment, like the cool Humble Weekly Sale, I’m going to direct you all to the Easter Sale currently underway on PSN. Go buy cheap, awesome games there. Go on, you know you want to.

Prototype of the Week

I know I talked about this game yesterday, but it just looks too cool. Cape Town’s Tasty Poison Games is developing Tom Sparks and the Quakes of Ruin:

a top-down action-adventure / shooter game with a healthy dose of exploration, platforming, puzzles and smashing things thrown in for good measure. We aim to create a game full of fast paced fire-fights and extraordinary weapons in a similar vein to console classics like Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter. We hope to bring this vision to life in a vibrant and mysterious underground world with a thick Diesel Punk aesthetic and an adventurous storyline.

It needs your love on Greenlight and Kickstarter, but first you can play the prototype/demo. It’s available for Windows, Mac and Linux.

Indie bundles have been making me very despondent lately. Every time a new one comes out I’m all excited until I see it & remember I already have the interesting half of the included games.
