Looks like prices have gone back to normal; sorry about that folks.

Is you wallet feeling a little emptier than usual, while your gaming cabinet gathers dust and neglect. Then you need some new games, titles that won’t resort to you having to hammer-murder your beloved piggy bank for funds.

There are plenty of options available right now, especially online, provided that you know where to look exactly. Which we have. Here’s a quick look at some quality titles that you can get for dirt cheap.

Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days

One of the most underappreciated gems that Square-Enix and Eidos ever released, Kane and Lynch 2 continued the further exploits of the doomed duo, using a raw reality, shakey-cam, vomit-inducing approach to gaming visuals.

It may not be perfect, but it’s a gritty take on the third-person action shooter genre that was backed up by a solid multiplayer experience. And at that price, it’s an even bigger steal than the heist films that the game liberally borrowed elements from.

Shadows of the Damned

We’ve spoken plenty before about this quirky little title from Suda 51 and Shinji Mikami. The two are legendary in Japan fro their work in the industry, but Shadows of the Damned was the first title where the two tag-teamed together for a thoroughly enjoyable romp through the gates of hell that saw protagonist Garcia Hotspur braves untold dangers and innuendo-laden plotlines in order to rescue his girlfriend.

While it may not feature any multiplayer to keep the action rolling after the end credits, it’s still a rough diamond that oozes tight gameplay and well-designed scenarios.

R100 on Xbox 360 and PS3 Edit: Looks like this special is over right now, although cheaper versions should still be available elsewhere.

Marvel versus Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds

The amount of pain that Geoff has inflicted on me with this game is biblical in scale. But besides gargantuan levels of ass-kicking being levelled on my rear, the original, vanilla edition of Marvel vs Capcom 3 is still a well-designed, balanced, epileptic-fit inducing mix of craziness, comic book characters and fisticuffs that lives up to the original two games.

If you’re looking for a game to mash the hours away with while a trusty friend berates you for spam-attacking him, then now is the time to get in on the action.

Homefront

When Homefront first arrived, gamers were promised a riveting tale of America being attacked and invaded, with hostile forces subjugating the populace and killing them left right and centre, with only a rag-tag group of freedom fighters standing in the way of total extermination. It was for all intents and purposes, Red Dawn the video game.

And that’s just what gamers got, except the final product was a ridiculously short game that was over as soon as it began. Still, if there is one thing Homefront did have plenty of, it was a rockin’ multiplayer mode that easily outlasted the criminally short single-player campaign.

Warhammer 40 000 Space Marine

Another favourite of ours, Warhammer is what happens when you strip any semblance of cover from a run of the mill third-person shooter and instead inject an overdose of adrenaline and chainsaw swords in instead.

With a legthy campaign and a multiplyer component that is bolstered by free DLC that adds substantial value to the title, you’d have to be madder than a charging horde of Cockney Orks to avoid this gem.

Wet

Ask anyone what their favourite Quentin Tarantino film is, and they’ll most likely say Jackie Brown Kill Bill. A fantastic film that deserved a video game tie-in, Kill Bill unfortunately never got to five-finger exploding heart palm technique anyone on a console, but that doesn’t mean that another game didn’t spot a gap in the market to feature a protagonist that swings a sword and gun around.

Wet followed the adventures of Ruby Malone, a sword for hire with a dangerous past, presenting some polished gameplay with a lengthy single-player experience that combined grindhouse cinema with bloody action sequences.

It’s become a cult favourite since its release, and it’s not going to get any cheaper. You should be able to pick it up for under a R100 now at any gaming retailer.
