Dragon age dragon info

Hunting down and killing all the dragons in Dragon Age: Inquisition was seriously fun when I played over the holidays. Yes, I killed every Dragon, contributing to these delicious stats released on twitter.

It makes sense that the most killed dragon is the Fereldan Frostback – he’s relatively low level and easy enough to take out once you’re of a high enough level. Of course, depending on who you take into battle with you, you might need to equip some items with fire resistance. Some people are struggling to even find the Abyssal High Dragon; sorry, you’ve got to do some fetch quests for Frederic first.

Killing Dragons isn’t just a fun side activity in Dragon Age: Inquisition. They drop some excellent crafting items, give a whole boatload of XP and boost your power. Wondering where they are and how to kill them? Well, here are some tips. (Warning: possible spoilers below)

  • Ferelden Frostback (Level 12) Hinterlands – Resists Fire and is weak against Cold. I highly recommend taking him on with two mages with plenty of ice magic. He will also fly around a lot and add a whole bunch of enemies to the battle, so Iron Bull can be a good choice with his War Cry.
  • Northern Hunter (Level 13) Crestwood – Resists Electricity and weak vs Spirit. The Northern Hunter is a pain because of his electrical charges that cause your characters damage if they’re close to each other. Use tactical camera or manually move your party around the battle field to keep them spread out.
  • The Abyssal High Dragon (Level 14) The Western Approach – You will need to complete Frederic’s quests to find out more about dragons before this beast will appear. Another fire dragon, he is weak to cold. Again, I’d recommend going in with two mages speed with plenty of ice abilities.
  • Gamoran Stormrider (Level 15) The Exalted Plains – Resist Electricy and weak to spirit. By this point in the game, you probably have your mages specialized. I found having a Knight-Enchanter in the party (Vivienne or the Inquisitor depending on your play through class) made a huge difference – they can keep barriers up and deal some big damage to the dragon’s barrier while dealing spirit damage.
  • Greater Mistral (Level 17) Emerald Graves – Turning things on its head, this dragon resists cold and is vulnerable to fire. However, the same basic strategy applies, although by this point you can also craft weapons with some hefty fire damage attached if you so wish.
  • Hivernal (Level 19) Emprise du Lion – Also resisting cold and weak to fire, I ended up taking out this Dragon with Cassandra and Vivienne. Cassandra’s shields made her practically invincible as she kept the dragon focused on her so that everyone else could chip away at its health.
  • Vinsomer (Level 19) The Storm Coast – Only found after moving plot forward, this dragon resists electricity and is weak vs spirit. I gave Iron Bull an ability that dealt spirit damage within a fairly side radius, making this dragon slightly easier.
  • Sandy Howler (Level 20) The Hissing Wastes – Resisting Fire and weak vs cold, the strategy for this dragon should be established for players by now. Just ensure that you’ve leveled up enough, have upgraded your potions and crafted some quality gear by this point.
  • Kaltenzahn (Level 21) Emprise du Lion – Resisting cold and weak vs fire, this second dragon of Emprise du Lion gives enough XP to making killing it worthwhile. Hopefully by now you have collected enough shards to unlock a bunch of doors in the temple – be sure to do so before battle and get some cold resistance of your own.
  • Highland Ravager (Level 23) Emprise du Lion – The toughest dragon in the open world, this one resists fire and is weak to cold. Again, I highly recommend using the shards to boost your own elemental resistance as well as crafting some masterwork armor and/or weapons. Of course, if you’re at this point you’ve probably killed the other dragons and gotten some quality loot, which will help you in this.

I hope this helps you contribute to the stats on dragons killed. Have you already taken any out? I love how terrifying and epic those battles feel.

It’s when you face a dragon just to realize you don’t have the correct items, then you’re craving items.

Killed the Ferelden Frostback while I was ~lvl 9.. took me a few attempts and finally killed it with only one character left “alive”. Fight took around 30 minutes and felt very rewarding, however the dragons I have faced after this initial one felt a bit disappointing… almost too easy. Guess I’ll have to go to Emprise du Lion and see whether I can kill that one as easily.

Varric and Solas “met” the dragon in the Hinterlands.
Luckily for me I was stealthed and when I saw that 2 of my party members had been taken out by 1 random fireball that I never even saw I turned and fled.
    Cassandra didn’t make it either.

my fight with that Gamordan dragon glitched out on me and when he hit zero hp, he just stood there, not dying.
so I spent a fair bit of time just looking at him, the attention to detail on those dragons is amazing.

The sound design owns SKYRIM. The base is so low that one can hear the gargling sound coming from its lungs.

EA have always had the best sound studio.

I do not know why there is not considering one cant just play the story, we are forced to grind a few power levels to progress the story.

They could have just upped the cap or something.

I found this one awesome exploit, but you have to do the “power for a price” mission in the war room first. then you get a new merchant at Skyhold and buy these papers that raise your influence.. Each time you buy a paper just sell it again (which raises your influences and gives your power points at the same time).. Do this as many times as you like or until you reach level 20 you’ll see you have more than enough Power points to finish the main campaign .so screw the side missions 😉

          Here is a a tut.

Just a stupid question,do the dragons respawn or are they “out” of the game if you kill them,i didnt go check cause i only have a few hours after work to play and it takes like 2 hours just to walk around Skyhold talking to all the npc’s:/

      no respawns on the dragons.
I was quite sad, but if you fight them at the correct times, they are that much of a challenge.
the loot doesnt scale either, so the loot will be the same level as the dragon.

I also thought Assasins stuff with ranged. And the only fights that are truly difficult are against Templars with bows. They cause so much damage and stagger and stuff. Holy crap. If it works for them, it must work for me.

Been playing with Varric most of the time, because Varric is cool. But now I want Cole. Even with a crappy bow.

bow schematics are pretty rare, i think i got one super early on and just sat with that for most of the game. there are some pretty awesome unique bows though.

the one with massive increased attack speed and the one that explodes enemies and deals explosive damage based on the damage of the killing blow, are particularly usefull.

I just got a bow that shoots 3 arrows on a single shot but its useless, unless the baddies get all up in your face, but wana craft 1 with the rare materials that i still have left, or try to get it at masterworks.

          • Matthew Holliday

            January 15, 2015 at 15:08

multi projectiles are only usefull for solo grinding, not for party play, has no place in dragon age.

masterworks bows are pretty straightforward, mega damage easy peasy.
but unless youve got an awesome grip that gives you specials, its not gna get you much in the way of anything unique.

hes either ben hassrath or tal vashoth, either or, hes basically allowed to do whatever he wants and not care.
its a massive cop out, i know, but its the only way they would get a compelling, lore friendly qunari.

This game actually, for me, gets the scale and epicness of a dragon fight more or less right.

My only problem is that with my Knight Enchanter I am not bothering to check what the dragon is weak against, just walk up and smack, keep barrier up forever and let the others do some stuff. Shoot arrows or spells or something. I killed at least three dragons by accident, was exploring, ran into it and killed it. Most of my part drops down, but Knight Enchanter keeps going.

funnily, the most difficult by far was the Fereldan Frostback.

its not really, its just the difficulty is very much level dependent, but it would be much harder if the dragons scaled with your level.
if you fight them when you’re at the correct levels, you’ll be in for a legit challenge.
