Hotline Miami lands on PS4 next week

Hotline-Miami-2-Screen-1-1280x720

Starting out as a lone PC indie title, Hotline Miami has somewhat become a cult classic. The ultra violent and psychologically thrilling 2D action title has already made its way to PlayStation 3 and PS Vita, and next week it makes the jump to Sony’s new hardware.

The PlayStation 4 version is being handled by port developer Abstraction Games, who announced yesterday that the game will be available for download via PSN on August 19th. Better yet, publisher Devolver Digital loves the idea of cross-buy, meaning those of you who already own the game on a Sony system will be able to download the PS4 version absolutely free.

If you don’t own Hotline Miami yet and you’re a little confused about it, don’t worry. All you really need to know is that you’re going to die…a lot. Hotline Miami is brutally difficult but also extremely rewarding, with bite-sized areas allowing you to experiment without the harm of losing lots of progress if you’re reckless.

The game is also extremely violent, with the 2D perspective not really doing well to hide the actions of your characters. Hell, you probably won’t even know why you’re tasked with cleaning out buildings full of goons in the first place. Your phone rings, someone asks you to go to an address, and you start killing. Confusing, right?

Despite that, Hotline Miami really is a gem of a game, and you should consider giving it a go before the sequel releases in the near future.

  1. More people need to play Hotline Miami, loved and hated it while I was still doing a series on it. The Soundtrack is also pretty epic, along with the plot twists 😀

There’s always a reason to kill a random goon.
They probably kick kittens and punch puppies.

I’d make a great elite random goon.
You know those ones who wear a different coloured outfit and have twice the health of the standard random goons.

By paying for it in micro-transactions? Wouldn’t that make you the noob with cash though? 😉

I’m thinking old school games where they only have 5 character models for enemies and stronger enemies are just palette swaps.

Dude, where were you yesterday when the Xbone killed it with their presentation (including all the indies)? It was your moment!

I knew MS would kill, just didn’t expect Sony to bring a knife to a gun fight, sad really!

That’s probably because Sony’s knife works better than MS’s gun. 😉

I thought about this last night and I bet you it’s a timed exclusive. Otherwise I will probably buy a XBOX

          • Pieter Kruger

            August 13, 2014 at 09:25

It’s not timed unfortunately, but would’ve thought if anything Quantum Break, Fable Legends, Halo:Guardians, Forza, Sunset Overdrive, Titanfall, Forza Horizon 2, Project Spark, Scalebound, D4, Crimson Dragon (sure there’s more, did I mention any Indies?) EA Access, external HD/USB support, all the media support you’d ever need etc. would be good reasons to get a XB1? ????

            August 13, 2014 at 09:27

I’m only interested in Quantum Break and Forza there. And the EA access puts me off enough to not worry about it.
Absence of good indies and strategy games is a bummer though.
            BUT
            Dat controller.

There’s literary 100’s of indies coming, “good” Indies, exclusive Indies and times exclusive Indies (not a fan really)

            August 13, 2014 at 09:34

Oh. I couldn’t figure out if you were sarcastic or not there. My mistake. That’s cool then. I’m not a fanboy per-se, I’m just a pc gamer because it does everything I need it to and because financially it makes more sense to me. My pc is literally what holds every electronic thing in my house together. Like the SkyNet of my house (only it hasn’t traveled back in time to kill me, yet)

Indies are like Nes games. I know you like to throw the term indiestation but seeing how it’s coming to XBOX you need to check it out.

            August 13, 2014 at 09:31

Quantum Break maybe, reviews depending. Halo 5 almost definitely. Titanfall? Hahahahah no. Media Support? The rest of the games not so much (thanks for the list, I had no idea any of these existed :P) Watching movies on my console? Why? No.1 reason would be Tomb Raider. But I still stand by my gut feeling that it’s a timed exclusive.

            August 13, 2014 at 09:42

I noted how MS went out of their way for the 1st time to clearly state and show on screen if games were timed/console or PC and Xbox exclusive. They clearly stated at one point that everything shown now will be Xbox One exclusives. Think they’re worried about being sued, Sony’d better do the same to avoid spending more time in court! ????
