Here’s how Nvidia will make Batman: Arkham Origins prettier

Batman

Next-gen console games may look fantastic, but I’ll confess, PC gamers will always have a visual edge. That being said, I’m not too keen to go through the hassle of indulging in slightly straighter edges and fabulous hair effects. Unless it’s for Batman of course.

Here’s a look at how the upcoming Batman: Arkham Origins will look better in “MY PARENTS ARE DEAD” HD if you happen to be running a PC with an Nvidia graphics card. The PhysX available on those devices will spruce the visuals up, adding better shadows, textures and more atmospheric fog than a Rastafarian station wagon.

If you can’t see the video above, then here’s a selection of screenshots for you, best enjoyed by hanging upside down and focusing on your parenting issues

Arkham Origins is out in October. And my Batman shall be the prettiest of them all.

Yeah but he does not have pretty pretty hair like my Lara!

    • Unavengedavo (aka. Frik)

      Or jiggly boobs?

      • Kromas

At AMD they strive for perfect hair not jiggly boobs!

    • Uberutang

AMD was the good guy with tressfx. It is not ‘exclusive’ to their cards. :P

  • Guest

    Yuuuup.

  • Uberutang

    :P

You can do all this shit without Nvidia BS in your PC. A prime example of how these GFX Card companies are paying off gaming companies to sell their products

    • godrilla

Nothing new this is the 3rd sequel to the series.
What about Microsoft and sony paying companies to make exclusive titles for their hardware. That is bigger bs than this!

    • Uberutang

On GPU Physx is exclusive to Nvidia.

      • ElimiNathan

And ? You telling me Physx is the only way to reproduce these FX ?!?! BS

        • Uberutang

Without tanking the entire system with performance hits, yes. There is no dramatic overhead for physx effects like this on Nvidia cards.

You can offload to the CPU, off course, but then other things will suffer.

          • ElimiNathan

But you CAN still do it, that”s my point

          • Uberutang

Not really. If you do use the CPU etc for it…then what do you compromise? This tech is build for the purpose it is used for, why push the min cpu requirements up or eat into fps if you have build in tech to use?

I personally think Nvidia should do what AMD did with tressfx and allow it to run on other systems, but until then… happy to have a Nvidia card for the games that do push the physx boundaries.

          • ElimiNathan

Yup, I thought so :D You have an Nvidia card. And to quote you “Not really”, dude there are hundreds of games out there with amazing Physx that don’t strap an Nvidia branded logo on the game. Yes I get that having the Nvidia Physx capabilities helps, but you DON’T need it to reproduce the FX you see here in Batman Arkham Origins, you don”t seem to get what I’m saying. YES there will be compromises on performance, I GET THAT, BUT it CAN still be done!!!

And to answer your ridiculous question of “why push the min cpu requirements up or eat into fps if you have build in tech to use?” GUESS WHAT ?! We don”t all run Nvidia cards, so why must the rest of us not be able to see these FX ? Take a guess ? Because Nvidia threw money at them to limit it to their cards

          • Uberutang

No NVIDIA owns the PHYSX technology. They flat out bought Ageia in 2008.
Surely they have every right to market their investment?

          • ElimiNathan

Dude I’m gna stop it here, because this conversation is flying right over your head

          • Uberutang

            You seem angry.

          • ElimiNathan

It’s Monday and I’m talking to a retard, so yes it’s not the best start to the day. GTA V only thing keeping me going!

          • Uberutang

            Nice.

          • Johan du Preez

Battlefield destruction does not need physx and looks much more realistic …. yeh thats the excuse Nvidia gives but its bullshit.

Physx gets dumped down to 1 data channel when you dont have a Nvidia GPU through the drivers and have absolutely nothing to do with hardware.

This causes a bottleneck and thats why its slower on any hardware but nvidia. If you had a AMD card installed and upgrade to a Nvidia card without reinstalling the OS then you wont be able to use Physx either due to nvidia forcing it to 1 data channel because it detected AMD registry entries/Drivers on your system.

Amd uses stream processors rather than cuda cores but its the same thing basically. If Nvidia allows other providers to use physx it will be as fast as nvidia cards or even faster.

Its got absolutely nothing to do with hardware they are gimping it on a software level. This subject is covered extensively all over the net ….

  • CypherGate

Its not even that big of a difference. Maybe the images doesnt do it justice, but from what i can see… not that big enough pull to make you invest in a better pc for that.

    • Uberutang

It is small things that help with immersion.
The freeze gun in AC? The little shards of ice that you do not get without physx. Getting tangled up in the loose carpets during a fight scene. Etc etc. I wont say go spend money just for that, but it is a really nice extra for Nvidia card owners.

  • RincemySniperKittEH0-O

Darryn, that you on the right? Kidding, really looking forward to this game. Loved the other three.

    • Alien Emperor Trevor

I believe him when he says his Batman will be the prettiest…

      • RincemySniperKittEH0-O

        LOL!

  • DaxterZA

Arkham City is stunning with Physx, cant wait to see how Origins is going to be! Borderlands 2′s Physx was also damn nice!!

Im a big sucker for Physx :-P

    • Uberutang

Yeah me 2. I played the game on AMD first, upgraded to Nvidia and holy bells, the difference!
