Here’s your first look at Rise of the Tomb Raider’s Baba Yaga: Temple of the Witch DLC

Crystal Dynamic’s rebooted Lara Croft games are more than just epic tales of survival and character-building. They’re also tinted with a supernatural sense of the unknown, a quick dive into legends and myths that made the 2013 and 2015 games so damn interesting to listen to, not just take part in. And that’s where Tomb Raider is at its best. When it balances action, survival and the unknown into one package, where you don’t really know the truth of what’s happening around you.

Gripping stuff, that is. Rise of the Tomb Raider dipped back into that paranormal well last month, but it looks like Lara isn’t out of the woods just yet. Because for her first batch of DLC, Lara Croft will be tackling some pure nightmare fuel based on some old Slavic folklore. Here’s the Baba Yaga debut trailer that was shown at the Game Awards pre-show that I wasn’t invited to. Probably because the catering staff was worried that I’d steal all the Horse-derfs again:

You ever hear of Baba Yaga? It’s the kind of fairy tail usually reserved for parents who read from the Babadook (BABA DOOK…DOOK…DOOK) book to their kids. It’s all about an ancient witch who has metal teeth, hunts down wicked children and drags them back to her hut. A hut which happens to walk around on grotesque chicken legs. Look, you know that you were an absolute little bastard if your parents read you bedtime stories about Baba Yaga.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to introduce some kids to the Baba Yaga fairy tales. No, they’ve actually been fantastically well-behaved. I’m just an outright fiend who wasn’t raised right.
