Hearthstone’s most broken card is getting nerfed

The real fake Unertaker.jpeg

Hearthstone has been a roaring success for Blizzard, which only multiplied tenfold when the game finally reach iOS and Android last year. It’s the perfect game to play when you should really be doing some studies, or work, or basically anything productive. It’s digital crack, but it’s still undermined by some incredibly unbalanced cards. The most unbalanced one though is getting a major nerf.

The Undertaker (not to be confused with the real guy) has been a thorn in thousands of Hearthstone players’ sides for a long time. The one mana creature gains an an extra point in attack and defense every time another creature with Deathrattle is summoned, making him particularly pesky if drawn as the game begins. In cases like that, he snowballs out of control, and makes the game virtually impossible for opponents.

Blizzard recognize that playing against the Undertaker is just not fun, and that goes against everything Hearthstone stands for. So in a new patch set to launch next week, the Undertaker will be nerved quite heavily. Instead of going buffs in both attack and defense, The Undertaker only gets a bump to attack damage. This means there’s far more strategy around keeping him on the board, as well as more viable options to remove him.

Blizzard is also not going to punish players who jump of the bandwagon too late. Anyone who crafted gold or normal versions of Undertaker will be able to disenchant him for the same return. That’s only for a limited time after the patch goes live, so you’ll have to decide fast if he’s still viable in the meta or not.

Hands up if you’ve ever been subject to the Undertaker and his incredibly broken mechanics. I’m glad to see Blizzard have finally caught up with him.

  1. I can’t remember the last time I played against a hunter who wasn’t running a deathrattle deck.

Ok, I’m just going to throw this out there:

In a standard card game the card would be banned from tournaments. If players wanted to use it in friendlies it would be ok.

Why, instead of actually changing the card, don’t they just make it a banned card in official tournies and then just create an extended format where people can go play with banned cards in their decks. Because why? Because sometimes being allowed to play with broken cards can be fun.

This is why online gaming is so bad. It’s far easier to just change the card rather than add a new one that does something similar and then ban the old broken one to a limited or extended format

Personally everyone who always bitches about hearthstone is broken and the RNG annoys me. Yes there have been times I have lost to a top deck, or the guy RNG’d exactly what he needed to win the game. Yes it’s happened when I have miles ahead and end up sitting there literally oozing salt from every pour of my body.

However there have been times I have won by some absolutely insane RNG b/s or a topic and it feels fecking fantastic!

So yeah I dont really think this nerf was needed.

But you see that’s what I mean. They feel the card is too strong. Look I get it. Every card game on the planet has this issue. Heck just go do a quick search for banned Magic The Gathering cards. PLENTY!

But to simply go and change the card? That’s just… it’s weird man. It doesn’t feel right.

There’s something about a card that is banned that is awesome. Especially if you have said banned card. It’s even more awesome to use it in an open format friendly against someone else.

By nerfing the card you are actually taking away from the fun. I stick by what I said, rather than nerf, just ban and allow an open format where you can play even banned cards. So that you can have those epic RNG moments of awesome

They do it because it makes the game more accessible.
It’s hard to argue that it’s easy to get into MTG because newbies have to learn about formats, how blocks works, ban lists. Available blocks per format and then of course they have to actually acquire the cards.

By changing a card they remove a smaller portion of casual gameplay but gain the fact that it keeps the game far easier to pick up and play. Managing collections is also far simpler simply because of the semantic restrictions of no reprints and 2 card limit. Limits that are enforced and managed autonomously.

I don’t know hey. You can still enjoy the base game like you normally would and then have an advanced section to it if you were keen to try it out. You don’t need to alienate the anyone.

Blizzard likes nerfing things when they get too fun. Just ask anyone who’s ever played Diablo for any period of time. So many builds have gone under the Blizzard scalpel and emerged lobotomised and useless. Then we end with only one or two viable builds. It’s like they are trying to be the Reapers: “We impose order on the chaos of organic gaming. Your build exists because we allow it, and you will not have too much fun because we demand it.”

SWK has received a buff. After the latest patch it pwns even harder than before. It just requires some rework around it.

That wasn’t really a nerf, I play with monk primarily, if anything it’s made it far more powerful 🙂 As long as you have an Incense Torch, you’ll be good 🙂 Have I got you on D3 Llew?

Nah. I disagree. But, each have their own playing style 🙂 I’m upset that the 20% 2 handed buff was removed mostly.

Anyway, I’m not sure. What’s your gamertag?

DE4DLOCK3D#2307, think I do have you added. Raptor in Game? Overall the net dps boost is quite dramatic, with the right combo of skills, most monks can almost 1 shot T6 elites, regardless of the 20% 2h dmg drop. Also it now opens up the build to 1 handers again 🙂

Honestly undertaker was the least of my worries.

Fair enough if a guy played under taker, coin, under take then death rattle minion next turn it was GG then and there.

However the amount of that actually happened was minimal, it just became a rule to kill the fucker the moment it showed it’s face. Never really had that much issue with it.

Still plenty of cards that you have to apply the tactic of kill that bastard now or it’s GG.
