Hearthstone delayed for smartphones

At onepoint this year, I was incredibly addicted to Hearthstone. As soon as it hit the iPad I was hooked again, making university a slightly more difficult task to undertake. Hearthstone is perfect on the go, but it’s taking a little while longer to get it running on all your handheld devices.

Earlier this year Blizzard hoped to have the game running across all tablets and smartphones using iOS and Android. It’s nearly the end of the year and Apple’s iPad is still the only mobile device with access to the card game. In a post on the game’s website yesterday, Blizzard updated fans about the progress of the other ports. Sadly, smartphones will only get some love early next year.

We’re also close to having Hearthstone out to our iPhone and Android phone users, but it’s become clear that we need a little more time to get that version right. While we have a build up and running internally, it needs a bit more work, and we don’t feel like we’ll be ready to share it with you until early next year. It’s very important to us that the phone experience for Hearthstone is just as accessible as the tablet and PC versions.

But what about Android tablets? Well, there’s good news on that front. It seems that Blizzard has nearly wrapped up that port, with just a spit and shine here and there left. It’s still on track to launch this year, making it the perfect distraction if you’re forced to spend time with family you don’t particularly like this festive season.

It’s just a pity that phablets like the iPhone 6 Plus and the Samsung Note 4 will have to wait until next year. I don’t see Hearthstone being that enjoyable on screens smaller than that.

Played this the other day, was a load of fun. Had no clue what I was doing but watching others can see how it can get addictive.
