GTA V has made Kojima a little depressed

By now, I’m sure you’ve all watched that pretty incredible GTA V trailer. I’ve had little to no interest in GTA since the fourth one disappointed me by being too much of an “annoying friends” simulator with too much focus on realism and not enough focus on fun – but after that trailer, I can say that I’ve happily boarded the hype train. You know who else found the trailer impressive? Hideo Kojima. So much so, that it’s made the fellow a little unsure of his own abilities as a game designer.

"GTA V" new trailer was awesome! This free control is future of the game, way higher than anywhere, makes me depress as matter fact.(cont..)

He seems to think his next-generation game appended with a V won’t be quite as good, and that Rockstar is the premier game developer on the planet.

That’s very humble of you, Mr Kojima – but there’s really no need to put yourself down like that. I’m sure your game is going to be just fine.

Here are both trailers. What do you think? Has Kojima been outclassed?

I think he is right on the money. Rockstar are the best. But he has nothing to fear, because Rockstar are leagues ahead of anyone else, and Kojima is at the forefront of the second wave.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Rockstar’s games and have been playing them for years but there are a number of studios out there on par with them.

Kojima hte sneaky bastard, it’s MGS 2 all over again. think you playing as Snake, wrong, here’s Raiden B*tches! But I think he is sincere though he’s a humble person when it comes to other developer’s technology and games.

Both are actually current gen. MGSV is also coming to next gen, but apparently the footage we saw was current gen footage.

The MGSV footage we saw was running on a PC with the approximate specs of the next gen consoles – Kojima has said that once the game is optimised for PS4/XboxOne the game will look even better.

As for graphical comparisons, MGS is definitely ahead on visuals. Animations, character details, weather effects, environment details, lighting and animations (again, because they’re fantastic). But GTA blew me away with the technical achievements it made on current gen hardware. Such a vast open world, with characters living out their lives in real-time. And that multiplayer is the first I’ve seen to approach Just Cause 2’s modded insanity. GTAV is doing things that next-gen games are bragging about.

MGSV has nothing to worry about. As impressive as the GTAV trailer was, I’m still more excited for Kojima’s project. Metal Gear is known for it’s story, after all. I think Rockstar are slightly more hit and miss when it comes to addressing themes and spinning a yarn.

Metal Gear delivers an experience that is largely unique, and there are plenty of GTA clones out in the wild nowadays. But ofc, Rockstar will again raise the bar for its own genre.

I believe his statement is very much an esoteric Japanese politeness that is common there, but also he acknowledges that in terms of open world, Rockstar have them beat – but MGS has never been about the open world, and this is the first entry in the series that is even attempting it.

I believe one this is for sure both GTA 5 and MGS 5 are gonna push every little bit outta current gen! without a doubt! I mean 8 gb install for GTA 5 hell it could be a 16 gb install and id still buy it as long as it looks great and plays great! then again mgs 5 might be bigger than 8gb install

So what he is saying is that all the money in the world does not make a great game, great coding does.

I always thought coding was coding and depending on how high your production costs are, the better the game.

Hideos game looks more dramatic serious style gaming whereas GTA5 looks more in the line of a not so serious kinda style and look. In some ways they quite different games even though V went open world. Open world is where Rockstar is king

You can’t compare Rockstar to other companies because other companies don’t do open world. Thats like comparing Sims 3 developer to a Crytek, who is better. Rockstar rule the open world market. Activision you can say rule the FPS world because of “Call of Kids” . you just can’t compare the two. GTA’s only competition is Saints Row(sorry you tried) and Sleeping Dogs(extremely close).

“GTA V (by Rockstar North) makes other developers look lazy and incompetent”. (quoted from jamieleng post).
I agree with this notion. I mean in-game graphics of GTA V look waaaaay more realistic than any game I’ve ever seen… e.g Michael’s House. Now if they can mke such huge world look so realistic, then what the fuck is wrong with the FIFA franchise! Football games are set in such such a focused environment, we should be able top see every blade of grass. Instead we get fuzzy characters who ‘look alike’ the real players.
Ironically, only brilliant developers like Kojima understand what GTA V should mean to every developer taking money from hardworking citizens of the world.
