GTA V could have its own DRM on PC

Say F*^&ing No to F*&^ing DRM! Also, The Witcher 3 is coming.

Grand Theft Auto V is nearly available on most major platforms, and I’m waiting patiently for the arrival of it on PC. That’s coming in a few short weeks, but it seems like I, along with thousands of others, will have a choice to make. That’s because a rumour suggests that the retail version of the game will be skipping Steam entirely.

Most PC games come with some form of online activation requirement, and most of those end up channelling the power of Steam. There are exceptions to this, where some games choose to use their own for of DRM, and it seems to be the case with Grand Theft Auto V. If the listing on GreenManGaming is anything to go by, Rockstar could be making use of their own Social Club authentication ( or worse, Denuvo) rather than Valve’s tried and tested system.

I usually shop on GreenManGaming, and they’re pretty explicit when it comes to listing Steam as a third-party DRM authentication. That’s missing from the GTA V listing, which is a strong indicator that copies purchased outside of Steam won’t use it at all. Steam is pretty great as an authentication service, so Rockstar’s own system better be up to scratch on launch day to avoid a downpour of hate.

It also really messes with my OCD, since 99% of my games are all launched and managed through Steam. I know you can do it with third-party titles, but it’s just not the same. Does it affect your purchase though? Will you be willing to fork out more just to have GTA V join your Steam library?

No real info to have a field day with. GTA 5 will not use Denuvo, that’s all we know so far.

Lets wait and see what they have planned first. They might treat us retail buyers properly. Couldn’t say that without laughing.

Rockstar Social Club is a piece of rubbish. It’s even more worthless than Uplay or Origin.

I agree. I own GTA V on console, and certain sections of the game, like the stock exchange in the assassination missions, only works if the player is logged into Social Club. Since there is only a finite amount of money to generate from the game itself, it is incredibly frustrating to try and buy property WITHOUT assistance from the stock market in the assassination missions.

I already played GTAV 2 years ago. R700 is only an issue if you’re on welfare anyways. Also,so if you can’t afford/don’t wanna buy something you can just fucking steal it then?

If you shop around a bit and apply some vouchers you could end up only paying R549, which is pretty much fair for PC games today.

You are retared. I won Max Payne 3 and a new bug within Social Club won’t let me use my own game. Time to go pirate a game I already payed for. Time to pirate a game with TOTALLY USELESS DRM.

I believe CD Projekt RED is releasing The Witcher 3 perfectly for the PC. The retail copy of The Witcher 3 will have no DRM, meaning that anyone with a capable PC can go out and buy The Witcher 3 and play it. If you don’t want to go out, then you can buy the game digitally through GOG and Steam.
The Witcher 3 at retail is a real product that you can mod, sell if you want to, keep forever.

If CD Projekt RED should release a game that has multiplayer then all you need to do is create an account on their client, Galaxy. Galaxy users can play the same multiplayer game with Steam users. The retail game itself will not be linked to Galaxy. The retail game can still be sold if you so choose so.

All of what I described, suits the gaming customer. Rockstar which has gotten too big for itself and forgetting about us the gaming customer, can learn a lot from CD Project RED on how to release a PC game to the PC masses. If Rockstar wants to limit their PC games with DRM, then fuck em. Don’t Support DRM. The Witcher 3 is coming. Cyberpunk 2077 is coming.

On PC there are various kinds of DRM, so you might think when u buy a game it is yours forever….. well not. New versions of hardware and software are killing DRMs. So the best version on PC is pirated version. Only that lasts long. Or you can always buy a console, that is for games not PC.
