GTA: Chinatown Wars To Be First Ever "Z" Rated DS Game In Japan

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is definitely one of the most incredible DS games that I have ever played, and also got the highest review score that I have ever given in my time reviewing games on this site (9.9/10).

The sad thing, is of course that we have reported in the past that Chinatown Wars sold really, really badly, which begs the question of whether or not there is a place in the DS market for more adult oriented videogames.

Something that isn’t going to help it’s sales is that Japan is going to be making History with it’s rating for the game, which releases over there in not too long.

Siliconera.com reports that Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, just like all other GTA titles is going to receive the rating of CERO Z, which is Japan’s equivalent of rating a game as Adult Only, not mature, this one means that it’s the harshest of the harsh.

GTA: Chinatown Wars now makes history as the first ever DS game to receive such a rating, which cannot bode well for it’s sales and to be honest, I really don’t think that it deserves such a rough rating.

To give you a rough idea of what an Adult Only rating could do to your sales, there are a few large retailers in the USA that straight out refuse to even stock and sell AO rated games at all.

It will be interesting to see how the game does in Japan, as it is an obviously huge DS market.

All I know is that the game was really fantastic, and if you own a DS and haven’t played it, do yourself a favour and pick a copy up from your local game store.
