Gamescom 2014 – The Sims 4 is all about personalities

sims 4

What’s on the inside has an impact on how your Sim behaves in The Sims 4. That’s one of the core aspects of the latest life simulation game, which EA just demonstrated.

EA showed off a live demo of the game, which included new-gen brown-nosing by making EA boss Peter Moore ridiculously buff. Build mode was shown off, with various rooms and passages being constructed and placed on the fly in order to create a dream home. Build Mode looks pretty intuitive, and quick to use.

Naturally, Moore had a mansion in the game. The game is looking beautiful and funky, if you’re into that kind of thing, with the personalities taking center-stage. EA says that this new personality feature will impact on how Sims interact. The gloomy trait is shown off, which makes a Sim bummed out all the time. One Sim in particular is showing off how emo he is, before the Peter Moore Sim enters and cheers up Bob.

With hugs, dancing and the great outdoors. This game is bloody weird so far, and also includes a gardening mode wherein the Peter Moore Sim gets slimed by a cow plant. And with that very weird demo, the Sims 4 experience is done! And the demo to create a Sim is available right now!

Neat. The game is out in three weeks.

  1. Hopefully in 3 weeks, the backlash against tablet-Sims for PC will be so great, it will completely kill the franchise forever. Quite frankly, and as a huge fan of Sims, Maxis needs to close shop. No more… NO MORE!!!

lol, Peter Moore reminds me of one of those goblin/elves in Harry Potter.

Really?! Really!?! THIS is what you want??? Think about it! Would you rather the Sims 4 be as awful as you expect OR would you rather it actually turns out to be amazing. Would you really rather a terrible mess or something that can be built upon for years? Would you rather Maxis have a flop so big it never makes another Sims game, or get another chance and actually make Sims 5 the way it should be. Because I want a Sims 5, and I want them to learn this time.

There are two possible scenarios – One Sims 4 does extremely well, and EAMaxis realizes that you can just re-purpose a tablet (iOS or Android) game for the PC, and the fans will eat it up. You don’t need to create ambitious games like (Sims 2 or 3). You don’t need to aim towards creating a flawless world where your sims can interact with the world or where every sim has a level of autonomy that’s never been attempted before.

Second scenario, the game flops. Maxis goes under (because EA rarely gives developers a second chance) and Sims as we know it is dead. We will never get a Sims 5 that’s based on a MOBA (because that’s popular at the moment). But… there is light at the end of this dark tunnel, an indie developer wants to create a new people simulation game based on the now defunct Sims or maybe Will Wright (free from the shackles that bind him) decides that now’s the time to create the definitive people simulation game.

Please Chick, as a long-time Sims fan, I beg you, don’t buy Sims 4.

Jim, as much as I love and respect the Banana, I have to wonder is your request to not buy the Sims not a bit early? Look, as a fan of the Sims I am also miffed at the no pools deal. But the blind hate for EA in the gaming community is now getting to a point where, with all due love and respect said, is getting a bit old.
So EA fucked up a bit with Deadspace, Murdered our (or rather some people’s) expectations of the Mass Effect ending and dragged Dungeon Keeper into a dark alley and had it’s sick ways with it.
They are, first and foremost, a business. They will try some stuff (As silly as it is *cough* Dungeon Keeper *Cough*) that will fail horrendously.
What actor, singer, author or any entertainment entity you care to mention had not done stupid shit before? For every Black album, there is St. Anger.
Am I a fan of what EA is doing with the Sims? Yes and no. Yes, the SIms will always be a game about expansions. It was that way from The Sims 1’s days. Am I a fan of having to wait for an expansion pack to just get pools? No. Not really.
But will I go into this game with a mature attitude?
          I kind of think so.
Yes. Mass Effect 3 had a crap ending. The rest of the game was brilliant. WHy do we feel the need to shit on let’s say 20+ hours of great entertainment because of a crappy ending? Or even worse still, because of the parent company label attached to it?
Or crap on a franchise that has been nothing but fun since the first release? Way back when? Because of missing pools and toddlers?

You’re right though, Sims 4 might actually be a decent game. All the decisions might actually pan out. I think the problem is that EA has been on a roll of late. It’s hard not to view them through a cynical lense.

Think EA is over promising again; “where you free to experiment with your Sims” BUT I will bet good money there will be no recreational drug use and you will not be allowed utter sexy time with the cow plant.

Pretty much, because the cow plant is part of DLC and won’t be in the base game. I really hope this game bombs like Sim City did. It probably won’t though. ARGH!

I might just buy this… Sims has always been an interesting one and I like simulation games in general, but I will wait for the reviews etc.
