Free Shadow of Mordor DLC boasts Epic Runes

SoM Sauron s servants

Shadow of Mordor is an excellent game, although Geoff is convinced that it’s missing something. He can’t figure out what it is, but he’ll happily keep on playing until he figures it out. Perhaps the new, free DLC will add a little something extra that will satisfy him, and everyone else.

The free Power of Shadow bundle includes a skin to make you look like Sauron’s fearsome servant, the Black Hand, as you take down every Uruk in Mordor. However, to help towards that end, there are also three new epic runes:

  • One with Nature – Immunity to Poison attacks from Uruk Captains or Ghuls
  • Ascendant – Double Focus Time for slow motion ranged combat
  • Elven Grace – Increased defence which halves the damage of enemy strikes

I am so very glad that this is free DLC. Too often, cosmetic and minor bundles like these cost a nominal fee. The curse of micro transactions is so omni-present, it’s actually a surprise to see this sort of content for free instead of for a few bucks. I don’t mind paying for significant extra content, but something small and cosmetic like this really should be given to us for free.

I’d like to see more games do this. Yes, extra missions or experiences can be at a cost, but cosmetic reskins or a couple extra items can be given away for free. It builds goodwill and shows that these were just extra things that the developers didn’t have time to include in the game before launch, rather than a money grab after the game releases.<?p>

That immunity to poison could be really helpful.
I tend to agree with Geoff to an extent on this. It’s a great game, but it’s not amazing nor is it addictive.

Immunity to poison attacks also means you can’t get Uruk-High.

I started playing this game over the weekend…. and so far, i have to agree with Geoff, there defo’s is something missing…. but maybe that’s my fault, as i tend to get side tracked on all the side activities and forget to actually play the main missions…

I’m guessing it’s because you don’t have any real connection to the main character? He’s just someone you’re moving to kill the Orcs?

To be serious, I actually like the main character quite a bit. Sometimes though, for how much the game shares with the Batman series of games it feels like I’m playing medieval Bruce Wayne.
Regardless, the game is a lot of fun (especially all those kill moves) and it’s flippen pretty to look at.

I’ve seen the pics from your murderous rampage, you monster.

It sounds a lot like AC3 to me – I liked the combat, I liked the story, I even liked the characters including Connor who everyone loves to hate – but it missed some spark to bring all those pieces together.

As I said, they had to paint it by numbers in order to play it safe. The instructions to all reviewers from Warner Brothers was an indication that this game had more lawyers than developers thanks to the MASSIVE estate of Lord of The Rings TM, we should just be happy that they were even allowed to create this cannon. I don’t know what Tolkien would think but Im sure he would never have passed it. Number one he never liked the Orcs and never wanted to delve into their backstory. They represent his PDSD from the war.

I’m fine with paid-for DLC if it’s like the Expansion Packs from the old days. But cosmetic changes and a few extra weapons for $5 is a money grab.

Should have been unlocked in the game itself along with those redeem codes. But we all know along with all these firmware updates that are called minor improvements that its nothing more than DATA capturing.
