Former AMD employees accused of stealing for Nvidia

Yup, it’s started again. Another scandal, but this is an industry! Just like any other it’s filled with conspiracy and espionage. Don’t forget the forensic evidence!

A group of former AMD employees , Bob Feldstein, Manoo Desai, Richard Hagen and Nicolas Kociuk are accused of spying for the enemy! These guys apparently saved over 9000 (no really, it was like 100, 000) documents to external hard drives in the six months before leaving AMD and then going to work for Nvidia.

According to the report on Ars Technica AMD says that they’ve forensically analyzed the former employee’s computers and found more evidence that “Desai and Kociuk conspired with each other to misappropriate AMD’s confidential, proprietary, and/or trade secret information; and/or to intentionally access AMD’s protected computers, without authorization and/or in a way that exceeded their authorized access.”

It seems as though AMD just want their property back though, they’ve asked for injuctive relief hoping to recover the files. AMD has also filed a restraining order against the accused former employees which got granted. The four men mentioned above were not just employees though, Bob Feldstein was a vice-president and the rest managers of the company. Feldstein was also a man who held great influence when testing AMD technology with next-gen consoles.

Even though events like these are not unheard of in the gaming industry I can help but wonder what the bigger picture is? Was Nvidia aware of what was going on, would they even touch such information with a 10-foot pole and put their whole company in jeopardy for something this foolish? What exactly was the intention of these four men? I guess we’ll find out as the case progresses.
