FIFA 14 kicks in later this year

WATCH THE FOOTBALL!

When FIFA 14 arrives later this year, old scores will be settled. Scores like 2-1, and 1-0. The giants of the Premier League will take on the titans of UEFA, and thus look relatively the same size in comparison. Every kick massively mattering to someone! Presumably! It’s the football! And if you watch it hard enough, it will move!

So what’s new this year? FIFA will once again be released on trendy consoles such as the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, as well as PC, but it’s giving the Wii U a red card and bypassing that for now. Still, if you happen to own one of those three devices, then the main hook this year will be “Pure Shot”.

The idea behind Pure Shot is that players will be able to adjust their stride and angle, making hitting a homerun into a net a more satisfying experience. Bundled with newly developed shot animations, the idea is that scoring a goal and then presumably converting that try into extra runs will create a more dynamic situation overall.

Also new, is the Global Scouting Network, which will allow players to “evaluate footballers all over the world to uncover the attributes and traits of every player in the game, in preparation for the transfer windows,” according to the press release. Other changes listed by PR also include:

  • Changes to the wildly popular FIFA Ultimate Team
  • A new online Mode that will encourage social competition
  • Multiple new features and benefits to EA SPORTS Football Club, the live service that is the heartbeat of FIFA
  • Complete authenticity with more than 500 officially licensed clubs.

There’s no solid release date on the latest FIFA game, but it should be bringing some pit crew action towards consoles and PC towards the end of the year as usual. Here’s the full press release from EA, detailing how this year’s FIFA is totally better than last year’s one.

What do you think? Worth the purchase for the Call of Duty of football games, or would you rather take a penalty shot with PES this year?

[Ed: Apologies for all footballing fans, Darryn got to this article before me and I didn’t have the heart to tell him he’s a moron for the 15th time this morning]

I want Gavin to order his minion Darryn to do a breakdown of the technical aspects of the game. That would get a ROFL from me 😛 And when I say technical, I don’t mean how the dude sets up the shot, I mean the CPU/GPU processes and split RAM features MWAHAHAHAHAHHA!

As enticing as that sounds we do have a use for Darryn and such an assignment would likely render him incapable of cognitive thought for quite some time

    Great article! Very educational!

I won’t be getting Fifa 14. I’m a massive fan of Fifa, but I can’t do this yearly release thing.

This was also a gem “scoring a goal and then presumably converting that try into extra runs will create a more dynamic situation overall.”

I love football games and what I do to counter the yearly release is alternate between PES and FIFA each year. This year is FIFA’s turn.

I only get a FIFA game every 5 years. I have FIFA 2010 for PS3,(and previously owned FIFA 2005 for PSP). I guess, in 2015 I’m getting one for PS4.

The last one I got was FIFA 11, maybe it is time for a new FIFA. I’m just not willing to fork (yes Erwin(nnnn) I said fork) out R600+ for the game.

As my good friend, Mpho recently put it…. “Same game, every year. You’re merely paying for roster updates”.

Ironically, FIFA 97 was a pretty decent game, not as great as ISS at the time (ISS would become Pro Evo during the PS2 years)

        But…

Nay sir, an annual cycle for a football game is ridiculous. The incremental changes from one year to another aren’t nearly enough to convince me to part with my randelas. Now, the changes after two years are definitely noticeable and significant. I actually enjoyed total ball control in 2010. I also liked the Be-The-Player mode, and while it was creepy to load up my face, and play as myself… The features for 2011’s FIFA just wasn’t enough for me. I liked what I saw for 2012, but I got Pro Evo instead, because that’s how we role in Cape Town!

But I kind of like being on a 5 year FIFA purchase cycle. Pro Evo will keep me company till well into 2015.

EA FIFA 12: GUYS Listen up! we’re adding this awesome feature called first touch, now you have to think ahead and make a decision before the ball reaches you. Plus a revamped defence system, but to keep it balanced, its all about timing…not strength or individual abilities

EA FIFA 13: Hey you FANS! We’ve listened to your feedback we agree on what you’re saying. Most players control the ball as if it were glued to their boot so we’ve added complete dribbling and “improved” first touch WOOT!

EA FIFA 14: OK! OK! No seriously THIS year is We REALLY SAT DOWN and listened to the most requested feedback, We’re absolutely spot on with our product this year…We’ve done our research and learned physics plays a HUGE role in soccer. That’s why we’re adding momentum AND *drum roll please*…REAL ball physics. Know what that means? Besides better first touch (duh!) No more predicting where the ball is going even when deflected or tackled as its been for the past 5 years. Speaking of tackling…after a mistimed one you will be able to react quicker than 3 secs if it’s unsuccesful. See you on the pitch…CHEERS!!
