Fallout: New Vegas companions revealed and detailed

Companions will be making a return in Fallout: New Vegas. This time, however, they’ll do more than simply attack whatever you’re attacking/fending off/screaming like a girl and running away from. That’s good news, because the companions in Fallout 3 were a little dull to be honest.

Matt Grandstaff, the Senior Community Manager for Bethesda Softworks, has written a substantial post on the PlayStation Blog. In it are details on the various companions you’ll be able to goad into joining you as you tear up the remnants of post-apocalyptic Las Vegas. What’s more, each gives you a perk that will definitely come in handy.

According to Grandstaff, a player will be able “to have one humanoid and one non-humanoid companion at any time”. As far as the perks are concerned, they sound as if they’ll be passive ability granted to the player for simply having the companion alongside them. Take ED-E (pictured) for example: with him at your side you’ll be able to detect enemies at a much greater distance than usual. What’s more, ED-E will allow you to target enemies in V.A.T.S. even when they are cloaked.

There are eight companions detailed in the post; two non-humanoid and six humanoid.  Explanations for each of the perks are also provided, but there are a few mild spoilers to watch out for. If you don’t want plot points or mission objectives ruined then simply don’t read the “Description” entries for each companion.

Fallout: New Vegas releases on 29 October 2010.

I dont know whether its worth it to get this day one. The first game was so riddled with bugs and some of the DLC was almost unplayable. When ppl go and complain on the forums no one replies or seems to care. Great game but ill wait and see if Obsidian has better QA than Bethesda.

Thats strange – I played the game and most of the DLC without any problems. For me still one of the best gaming experiences on my 360.
