Fallout 4 has a ridiculously high level cap

Fallout 4 is fast approaching, and I won’t try hide the fact that it’s one of my most anticipated games of the year. Seeing it at both E3 and Gamescom left me with feelings of both excitement and familiarity, as the Bethesda sequel looks to borrow heavily from Fallout 3. One facet that it is changing rather drastically though is Perks – so much so that the level cap has managed to raise itself to a near unattainable height.

In Fallout 4, your character will still level up in the traditional way. Kill a few radroaches, collect a little XP and soon you’ll be able to last more than two seconds against a Deathclaw. What’s different is the way that individual perks now benefit from levelling up too – with perks having their own tiers of upgrades. What that boils down to is a truly impressive branching of perks to upgrade, so much so that you’ll be playing for a while before you reach a ceiling.

In fact, you’ll need to level up 275 time to create a fully maxed-out Fallout 4 character. Something that Bethesda reckons will take you a really long time.

“You’ll still level up via XP, and each level increase will still give you a point to spend on a perk, but now those perks have varying XP levels of their own. It’s perk-ception, essentially, and means that, should you theoretically play long enough to max out every tier of every single one gaining untold buffs and no doubt all kinds of horrendous real-world illnesses in the process – you’ll top off with a total of 275.”

It theoretically means that Fallout 4 will in fact extend far beyond its predecessors in terms of gameplay time, but only if you’re the sort of player who absolutely needs every single perk maxed out. What it means for players like me (and perhaps you too) is that we’re going to be really spoilt for choice when it comes to levelling up. Focusing on a few perks is probably going to be key, but that’s not too different from any other RPG.

Fallout 4 is racing closer, launching on November 10th for PC, Xbox One and PS4.

I honestly think they should implement this sort of idea in RPG’s whether JPRPG’s or Western ones. To avoid the long as grind of a lifetime they should ‘hide’ in the world very VERY rare items and ‘master trainers’ who can train you in a special perk or special magical item or move etc etc regardless of your experience. For example if you say level 20(which should be an experienced level. Anything under that is too basic an inexperienced) and you explore only to find an ancient ruin where a mystical grandmaster lives and you train with him to a point that you mastered that special art/perk etc you can still use that perk/item at any level. It just wont be as strong as say a level 70 player with the same perk etc. so the more you use it the more experience you will gain in perfecting that move. I think from that perspective you could cut grinding a bit and really change the style of play instead of striving to achieve the highest level possible to get specific items. Sure there will be items that only highly experienced players can get. I just think that they should add in some proper exploration rewards and it shouldnt be easy to achieve making it so much more worthwhile in the end. I dont want to grind till the end of time to gain one item… or secret move.

Also reward the player for playing on a higher difficulty with more EXP.
