Online is the way to go. At least that’s according to every developer with a game on the way. Still, most folks are content to not have to interact with human beings online, an idea that’ll destroy whatever remaining faith you have left in humanity. Fable Legends is pimping that online co-op pretty heavily, but at least it won’t be a mandatory part of the game. Only the online connection though, will be.
In a FAQ on the Lionhead Studios forums, admin Hohbes verified that players will be able to go it alone in the game. “In Fable Legends, you can enjoy all of the game’s content in a single player experience,” Hohbes wrote.
You can play with other people in a four-player cooperative experience. Your party could be all human players, or a mix of players and AI-controlled Heroes. You can switch easily between single player and multiplayer styles of play whenever you decide, or when a friend signs on. During a quest, you can elect to battle a human or an AI Villain.
As a Villain, you can challenge parties of human players, AI opponents, or mixed groups.
I haven’t been happy with Fable since…Fable 1, but I do like the idea of being able to play as the villain and really measure how massive a dick I can be to an online party of adventurers. As for where the game stands in the Fable universe, don’t expect this one to be a sequel. “Fable Legends is being made with the Fable spirit firmly in mind” Hohbes continued.
However, this is not a continuation of the previous Fable games, especially when it comes to the chronology. It’s a brand new series of adventures at the dawn of an age of Heroes.
Fable Legends is the only Fable core game in development, and we have no plans to make a sequel to Fable III. However, in Fable Legends you’ll find many of the great features of Fable I, II, and III have been carried forward in our game’s design. That means the world of Albion, exciting stories, quests, humour, light-hearted action, and memorable characters.
And hopefully with Peter Molyneux long gone, a game that delivers on what it promises. There’s no release date yet for Legends, but the beta testing will begin in 2014.

Error 37 imminent…
I still don’t get why they force people who want to have a single player experience online. It makes no logical sense because of the immense server load experienced day 1 with everyone trying to log in at the same time. If the guys who wanted only an SP experience weren’t forced to be online then there would be no problem as they would only try the online thing later on when things have calmed down.
Am I the only one who sees this logic?

Almost every gamer sees that logic. Problem is that most games are not developed by gamers and even if they are most of those devs are shackled by the publishers. And that is why kickstarter games like Star Citizen and self published games like Witcher will always have a huge place in my games library.

Shh, stop making sense! 😉 Agreed. I mean, I would probably enjoy playing with some mates or OVG, but I don’t like that even if you play alone you must be online. It’s basically DRM for goodness sake, do they think we are all noobs?

They really should make a new Fable for next gen that isnt online…. Like a new story all together and when they done with that make black and white 3! Next gen fur animations water AI destruction ect would be insane!! on my list of games is Dungeon keeper and theme hospital make them for next gen please devs!!
