I gave my review of Evolve and I still stand by my thought that it’s an awesome game when you play with a bunch of cool friends, and otherwise it just doesn’t have the same charm. However, eSports is all about teamwork and these guys really know how to cooperate and make the most of the game. Now they can show what it’s all about at PAX East.

Evolve will be leap smashing its way to PAX East with teams battling it out on the ESL Arena stage. With commentary added by 2K’s DB Sinclair and hosted by ESL’s Cameron “Camd0zer” Reed, the event is designed to help build the Evolve eSports community. But how on Earth can you play an eSports game when the design is asymmetrical? Well, it’s not as complicated as I thought.

The Evolve PAX East PRO-AM is a single elimination tournament, where teams of 4 will play both Hunters and Monster, in best of 3 matches. This exhibition bracket features 8 teams, including current pro gamers, YouTube content creators, Twitch broadcasters, and aspiring competitive players from the emerging Evolve eSports community.

So someone on the team will have to be an awesome hunter and monster – you can’t have a dedicated monster player. The skills required for monsters are so different than those for hunters, I’m curious to see how eSports players tackle it, and if they end up with different players specializing in the specific monsters.

It’s nice to see Evolve jumping in on the eSports scene. I wonder if it will be a popular title, or if this is just a fad while the game is still so new.

I’m guessing each of the four players will specialise in one of the different monsters. I’m more curious as to how they will chose which monster is played. Different one each game or will they be allowed to play the same monster in all games?
