S.A National LAN Champs registrations open

Registrations are open for the 2012 MSSA S.A National LAN eSports Championships, this serves as part of the selection process for the 2013 IeSF World Championships and open to any registered players.

This is probably the simplest way to get into international competition and compete against the world’s best players; it’s one of the things that catapulted our local StarCraft 2 pro Robert ‘PandaTank’ Botha into a career of gaming internationally. Gamers should really take advantage of this awesome opportunity. Registrations will close on 26 November 2012 and the event will take place on 8 and 9 December this year.

IRON F.Reiza Championship kicks off this week

Six South Africans will start a season of Formula 1 simulation racing this Friday in an international tournament, braving it against some serious business drivers from all over the world.

The guys over at East Rand Racing have decided to enter this international racing tournament called IRON F.Reiza Championship and commit to it for the next couple of months. So far two of the South African drivers have been showing dominance right from the start during practise sessions, topping the leaderboards in the number one and two spots. Team mates Riaan Lamprecht and Dewald Nel continue to prove why we should be seen as serious contenders.

Help choose the IeSF titles for 2013

The MSSA is asking local gamers to make suggestions for five new titles to be played at the IeSF World Championships next year, there’s been a couple of great suggestions, Dota 2 seems to be the favourite.

The IeSF initiated the process of choosing the titles to be played at the 2013 World Championships and each member nation is being required to submit a list of five titles, this included South Africa. Our submission is done through the MSSA, who has made a post on our local eSports SA Facebook page as well as their own page. Many gamers have responded and you can too by commenting on those threads.

Global Play coming to Starcraft 2

Blizzard has announced that they’ll be adding Global Play in an upcoming patch in the coming months. This means that players will now be able to access game servers in other regions, expanding the possibilities for eSports.

Global Play will expose players to maps and games that aren’t published everywhere yet and will make it easy to play with friends in other parts of the world. This also means that now players can compete in ladders outside their regions, such as South Africans competing in Asian ladders. This should open up doors to smaller, self-operated tournaments world-wide.
