Epic ex-president has cut all ties with the company

No I’m not talking about our epic ex-president, the awesome Nelson Mandela, but rather the ex-president of the company Epic, Mike Capps. According to a new post on Polygon, Mike has now cut all ties with Epic and is no longer affiliated in any way.

No real reason has been given for this sudden cut but according to Mike

"When we announced that I wanted to transition out of my leadership role at Epic, the plan was for a continued but less active role, service on the board of directors, and ideally, being that eccentric semi-retired guy who still comes to playtests and gold parties,"

"I’m sad to say that plans have changed, and as of February 11th, I’m no longer affiliated with Epic Games."

We posted news of Mike stepping down as president back in December and at the time I thought it could be a sign of someone buying Epic out. Someone like Microsoft.

With the release of Gears of War: Judgement just around the corner, an Xbox 360 exclusive, and Epic’s iron grip on the 3D engine market with the Unreal Engine it really is a company that is still on the up and up. I personally am worried that this marks a turn for the worse for Epic with the big names associated with the company now all moving in opposite directions.

Best of luck to Mike and his wife who are expecting a new baby, I’m sure this isn’t the last we’ve seen of you.

Sad to see him go. Let’s hope the next guy doesn’t get all “Always online is the way to go” on us.

Maybe they were discussing DRM for GOW and he disagreed
