EA’s already showing off Battlefield 4

We knew that Battlefield 4 was coming. After the phenomenal success of Battlefield 3 in finally taking a decent sized slice of Activision’s shooter pie, a sequel was pretty much a given; we just had no idea that the game – which doesn’t officially exist yet – was in a state to be shown off. Apparently it is though, and EA’s already been showing it of behind closed doors.

What’s the word of Gamestop CEO J Paul Raines. the tweet was retweeted by EA’s account – so it’s information that they’re comfortable sharing.

The big question is whether or not the next Battlefield will be for the current crop of consoles, or the next ones from Microsoft and Sony. If it’s worth showing off already, and it is destined for next-gen, there’s a fair chance we might even get a glimpse of it later at Sony’s “Future of PlayStation” event.

I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces. I am also the emperor of the backend

…a little bit more than 12 hours to go for the announcement! Even I am curious now!

I’d just like to see if they’ve made improvements to the single player aspect

So he wants us to play World of Warcraft :p

It would be great if BF4 single player was an enormous open world game, like GtaV or skyrim big.

You can then accomplish objectives with a boat or a tank or a helicopter and depending on tasks you complete you get better weapons and support like drones or artillery strikes.

Linear games hold your hand telling you where to go, what guns to use and which vehicles you may use. I want to be able to play it my way.

      Soooo…. Operation Flashpoint basically?

      • Deon Steyn

Well yes but that was a hyper-realistic shooter that was very slow paced. Plus the free roam aspect for me was a bit lacking.People will want to it to remain fast-paced.

I’d love for it to be more op.flashpoint, gameplay-wise though, with greater emphasis on squad commands. That’s one thing I love about flashpoint, the fact that you’re in control of your squad mates, rather than merely following AI down super narrow corridors like a dumbass.

      I would play that.

    • Singleplayer yes. But BF3’s MP is played the way I want to with no hand-holding, and on hardcore it’s realistic enough, yet still have the feel of a fun game. Hopefully BF4 wil perfect this.

My vote is for next gen. It’s probably an early version that they’re showing off. I just hope it comes with Oculus Rift support. Imagine flying a jet fighter with Oculus Rift! YEAH!

    WOW was not expecting this!
