EA wins best LGBT workplace third year running

Gay pride

EA has been doing all kinds of things to make themselves seem more appealing. From giving away free games to releasing a beloved Bioware title, people are finding fewer reasons to hate EA. Now there is another one.

For the third year running, EA has earned a perfect score from the Human Rights Campaign for corporate equality. The equality is measured across a range of criteria, including equal partner benefits, organizational competency on LGBT issues and a public commitment to promoting equality for the broader community.

It makes sense to me – EA has always promoted equality in their games, with same sex relationships available in The Sims and Bioware titles. Plus, they have a Head of Diversity and Inclusion – if you have a job title like that, it must be something that you take seriously. Said head honcho, Andre Chambers, said about the award:

We are very honored to be recognized again as a ‘Best Place to Work’. We believe that fostering an inclusive environment helps us to create great games, and represent our diverse set of players and I’m proud to work at a company that has strong employee values.

It’s nice to see companies showing such strong commitment to equality in the workplace. While there are still issues in EA’s corporate philosophy, I strongly believe that it’s because they have a team of people from a range of backgrounds that they are able to make such rich and interesting games. It’s not just about including women for quotas or because it’s politically correct – it’s about having a workplace filled with people from all walks of life so that gamers from all backgrounds can identify with the stories told in EA games. So, congratulations, EA – it’s nice to have a happy story about you.

Good on EA. Why not celebrate by buying some EA games on the Steam Sale.

Honestly, I would, but there’s not an EA game at the moment that really grabs me. Except for Dragon Age, of course, but that one can wait.

I can only access steam on my phone now since my work bans EVERYTHING. I’m actually surprised Lagz still works.

picked up the Something or other edition for ME2…. I think it has DLC, but whatever, DLC is only neccessary for the better ending in 3, right?

I also thought the version I purchased came with all sorts of DLC but it only had a few basic add ons. I took advice from one of the guys on the forums (Rags I think) and bought almost all the story arc DLC for ME2 and then looked up preferred DLC for ME3. I would highly recommend you search for appropriate DLC as some of it is just new weapons or multiplayer add-on’s.

            Enjoy!

It’s easy to have the best place to work if you focus only on yourself and not the customers. ;P

Now if only they could show as much morals in their business practice towards clients. DRM, Microtransactions etc.

This company is run by lawyers. In 30 years of gaming I never imagined that I would be forced to accept a MANDATORY 5000 word T&C document before being allowed to progress to the title page of a single player game like Dragon Age Inquisition.

    A sign of the times.

Listen. I like the idea that a co is promoting equality and are being commended for it, but a fucking award? An actual fucking award? Why the fuck do we have the equivalent of participation awards going to companies for just being, idk, tolerant? I think its fucking ridiculous that we need to brandish accolades and ribbons because you treat some one like an equal. This kind of shit just exacerbates the issues at hand.

Just a pity that they publish the worst and most unfinished games of any company in the world.
Another golden turd award coming up?

In a nutshell, EA is a hipster SJW. It makes all the right noises. It wears the dorky glasses, sits in coffee shops while moaning about the injustices of the world or whatever was covered in first-year ethics classes, yet where it counts, it lacks the necessary altruism. It’s all a ruse, a carefully concocted show and dance, with almost no substance.

EA is exactly why people hate SJWs.
