Multiple EA Origin users are reporting their accounts being hijacked, many of them unable to do anything about it for the most ridiculous reason. EA is denying any hack or breach to the client.
EA Origin users have been receiving emails that their account details have successfully been changed, after which they are unable to access their accounts. A forum post highlights numerous cases and the issues with trying to resolve the problem.
“It also exposes a huge, gaping flaw in EA’s security system, given that:
a) there’s no mention in the email of what it was changed *from*
b) there isn’t a confirmation asking for the email address to be changed
c) people trying to raise cases about this with their online help/chat thing are getting knocked back because they have their own dates of birth wrong”
EA’s response on their official forums has only been to suggest affected users contact EA Customer Experience at http://help.origin.com for assistance. However this does not solve the issue, since it appears to be a wave of account hijackings happening at the same time. Not to mention that you have a big chance of not getting your account back, since you’ll probably get your own birth date wrong.
Where’s the “We are looking into fixing the problem.” Or does EA not realize that this is a problem? Multiple sites are reporting that EA is denying any breach or hack.
“At this point, we have no reason to believe there has been any intrusion into our Origin database.”
