With the EVO 2012 fighting tournament just around the corner, what better time to get stuck into fighting games than right now? We’ve seen a slew of new releases this year, from soulful blades, ninjas and crossovers, but the schedule has seen a large lack of blond martial artists in screaming matches so far.
Woops, I spoke too soon! Goku and friends are returning, and we’re not only talking about that Kinect game either.
Namco is wheeling around a resurrection of their classic PS2 titles, Dragonball Z Budokai and DBZ Budokai 3. Curiously, there’s no mention of what happened to the second game while these two were getting the 16:9 treatment. The HD collection will release towards the end of this year on Xbox 360 and PS3.
“With its intense gameplay and thrilling fight action, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 went on to become the highest rated Dragon Ball Z title on Metacritic, a position it retains to this day,” Namco said, referring to the aggregate score of 77.
I’ve got a slight enthusiasm for this release. I loved the original DBZ games when they came out a decade ago, as they were pretty damn groundbreaking in the anime fighting game sub-genre, before annual releases saw the same story trotted out year after year after year after year…
Still, I spent plenty of hours mastering the third Budokai game, so this news excites me. As for that other, Kinect-based DBZ game, it’s got an official release date for the European territories launch (That’s us!), which will be October 5.
