Did EA mislead investors about Battlefield 4?

The news on Battlefield 4 just keeps getting worse. True, DICE has released a patch that’s supposed to fix the PS4 client crashes, but now it seems that EA might have misled investors; they’re even under a legal investigation.

Law firm Holzer Holzer & Fistel, LLC are investigating whether EA broke American federal security laws from July-December 2013:

Specifically, the investigation focuses on statements issued during that time regarding the development and sales of the Company’s Battlefield 4 video game and the game’s impact on EA’s revenue and projects moving forward.

Hmmm, could it have started when Kevin O’Leary said that Battlefield was going to be a billion dollar annual franchise? The statements have been all optimism and excellence, yet Battlefield 4 hasn’t had the easiest launch. In fact, it might be considered a bit of a flop. Investors will not be happy with the falling price of EA stock, and it’s certainly becoming far to easy to point the finger at BF4.

Now I wonder if EA’s CFO was lying last month when he said that a third of all games bought for PS4 were from EA. If they’re investigating statements made by the company and its officers, all their comments have become suspect. Then again, EA being the most hated company means most of their comments were suspicious anyway.

Mislead is such a nice word. Lied is more like it. I don’t think I would miss EA much if they stopped making games and did something else like entering the banking sector or maybe offshore oil drilling.

Technically, we as the gamers who buy the affal from EA are investors. And EA has lied to us many times over. What’s the difference here?

Stopped buying a long long time ago. Mass Effect is the only thing EA related I can recall.

So far so good. If I can resist Steam sales, I can resist DA3.

See the thing is, I love Dragon age, DA2 was not bad, I enjoyed it and i enjoyed the story. The game had no game breaking bugs, the voice acting was very good and graphics was pretty nice for me. The only bad thing was the re-use of the same environments.

DA3 is going to be epic ;-)~

I will buy it and will let you guys know! hehehe

I really enjoyed 1 & 2 as well. 3 does look pretty good. I’m just not very keen on supporting EA games anymore.

EA is not the only bad company out there, all of them are like that to be honest.

            Activision, SEGA, Ubisoft.

Activision, releasing a “DLC” of CoD every year and charge a FULL AAA title price.

SEGA – Total War: Rome 2 was in a POOOR SHIT state, even saw “code” error messages in the game … dufaq ….
Some awesome features got removed .. Creative Assembly was probably forced to release the game in that crap state.

Ubisoft – Assassins Creed 4: Black Flag had so many issues for PC and PS4, you must see howmany people are bitching about it. I am one of them because I could not play AC4 for 3 days because of a patch they release that made my game unplayable. I had to search illegal sites to find a working file so that it works and I PAID money for my game.

No I know. But I see them as the worst of the lot, with Ubisoft a close second thanks to Uplay, which I despise.

The problems you mentioned with Total War & AC4 are one of the main reasons for me not buying games at release any more, they’re all buggy. Along with DLC being dribbled out over the course of the next year that ends up with the game costing more than double the purchase price if you choose to buy it all. Patience is your friend.

I thought Origin was bad … OMF Uplay takes the cake.

I am swearing so much at Uplay…

I hated the idea of ANOTHER game manager with Origin, but atleast EA have plenty titles to fill it with.
I got used to origin, its actually not that bad, its also just nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of my steam friends list…

I laugh at the idea of uPlay though.

None of them are like EA, because EA is just the publisher, outside of telling developers how to develope their games, they have no hand in actually making games.

ubisoft and SEGA actually have developement teams.

          • Willem Swanepoel

            December 13, 2013 at 10:48

SEGA is a publisher. Creative Assembly developed Rome II, SEGA published it. SEGA forced a poorly developed game, not finished and full of bugs. No one can argue against that… They are just as bad as EA in this case.

Ubisoft does not have to be a publisher to be greedy.

All of them are the same. EA is just the biggest one, they just look a lot more attractive with a bulls eye on their forehead.

This’ll be really interesting to see how it turns out. Your projections to investors really need to be vaguely based on reality, not marketing hype. If they were doing the latter then they could be in some hot water.

Battlefield has always been published by EA
it would be better to say that DICE has EA to thank for their success.
EA may be full of shit, but if they use your company to do something, youve got it made.

EA and Dice want too much money for “DLC” that should have came with the game in the first place. Its all a BS business model. Chop a full game in half and sell it as DLC. NO Thanks!
