Tentacle

It’s actually kind if funny. As much as we gamers ache for new technology and games, we can’t seem to let go of our nostalgic past, holding onto our favourite classic games with the ferocity of an East-German bear hug. Over at the PlayStation Experience on the weekend, that nostalgia went into overdrive as Tim Schafer and Double Fine knocked out a trio of announcements.

First up, the big news: Day Of The Tentacle is making a comeback. The classic 1993 game and Maniac Mansion sequel is getting remastered, and will hit PlayStation 4, Linux, Mac, PC and PS Vita next year. I’m only hoping that the PS4 can handle those VGA visuals. As you can imagine, Geoff is currently frothing at the mouth at this one-two combination of Street Fighter V and his favourite point ‘n click returning.

Next up, your PS4 is about to get broken. Broken Age that is. Tim Schafer’s crowd-funded game will hit the console next year, with both halves of act 1 arriving in time for the release of act 2 next year. That was a very weird sentence to type out. And last but certainly not least, some Grim Fandango Remastered news!

The game has a proper release date, and will be out January 27 on PlayStation 4, PC, PS Vita and Mac. As you can imagine, I’m the one frothing at the mouth now, as Grim Fandango remains my very favouritest point ‘n click game of all time. If you haven’t played it, you lucky bastards. That means you get to experience that wonder for the first time.

I envy you all.

I still remember getting stuck at the card puzzle, where you are supposed to punch holes in it before you put it in a message tube 😛

      Same. HUGE Fandango fan.

Have you seen Between Shu Ferns? They have an interview with Tim Schafer. Pretty cool idea, even if it’s just copying that Galifianakis format.

Yeah. Did that hack affect PSN? Or was it just the movie side of things?

edit: Nevermind, just saw the new article.

Uncharted 4 gameplay video made me jizz in my pants.

Does it sound stupid if I buy a PS4 just to play that game ?

or do you think that will be exclusive … ? I mean PS4 is pretty much a PC so they can easily port it but hell, Sony will use that game as another marketing gimmic to sell more PS4… and I bet you, it WILL make people buy a PS4 that was on the fence …

I won’t go as far as to call a 1st party studio making games for the console a “marketing gimmick” 😀

They will unfortunately not port it. Or, chances are near 0%.They are actually in the console selling business, not so much the game making business. They make games to sell consoles. Or that is how I see it.

And no, it certainly won’t be stupid to buy a console for one game 😀 I planning on buying a PS4 to play Gran Turismo 7, once that gets released in 2022.

You have to search for that video and watch it, they uploaded it on the 6th Dec. I must have that game, now that Tomb Raider is xbox one “timed” exclusive, I will need to feed the adventure monster with something else …

and limiting their revenue … of course companies want more money especially with the current gen consoles that makes porting games to PC easy 😉

I’ve never played Grim Fandango… **bows head** But willing to give it a go when it gets here on PS4.

My favourite point-n-click adventure game? Probably a tie between Loom and King’s Quest. 🙂

Grim is one of those gems that take us back to a time when Pentium 1 233mhz cpu’s, 16mb of ram and DirectX 6.1a were the best rigs known to man.

Life was so simple back then….

Very much looking forward to Grim Fandango myself but can you technically call it a point and click adventure? If memory serves you only used the keyboard as input device.

No you cant call this a point and click.. Its more like a “page up” or “page down”, then press “enter” kind a game. Like the walking dead games on last gen and current gen consoles.
