I’ve got a lot of love for the two Darksiders games from Vigil games. Pinching the best parts of other games and wrapping them in a completely unique look based on designs from comic book legend Joe Madureira resulted in a fantastic hybrid of style and substance. Pity the franchise is dead. Or is it?
Over on Facebook, Joe Mad left the following message on his page, updating the status of the franchise:
Darksiders– DS is not dead!!! The new owner, Nordic seems very committed to continuing the series. As far as my involvement, I can’t say at this point. Hopefully we will all have exciting news about the franchise soon!!!!!!
After the collapse of THQ, Nordic was one of the many, many publishers and developers who snatched up a franchise or two. I’d be damn happy to hear that a new Darksiders is on the way, and even happier if it also allowed Joe Mad to return to a creative post in that game.
Half the fun of Darksiders 1 and 2 was the look of the game, and I just cannot emphasise enough how much of an impact Joe Mad and the rest of the art department had on creating something that stood out. If you’ve never played Darksiders, you should do so.
The two games are completely separate beasts, with the main protagonists War and Death sporting their own way of play. Darksiders 1 is more of a massive homage to The Legend of Zelda, while Darksiders 2 felt like the logical evolution of an MMO.
But they were both fantastic. Hopefully, third times the charm with this franchise.

I liked the concept, no doubt. I like puzzles and stuff like that in games but I hate this running back and forth to try and figure things out. The artwork was amazing though.

It’s not like this is new news. They have been saying that they are planning on finishing the series. Read somewhere that they wanted to get as much of the original team together so that the sequels fit and maintain continuity
