Could this be the Game Boy of the future?

I love my 3DS console. A while back I was bitching non-stop that the little handheld was DOOMED, but Nintendo managed to pull the console back from irrelevancy with some solid games. It’s getting a bit old though, and a successor is no doubt on the way. And I seriously hope it looks like this concept.

Justin  “Not a medicine woman” Quinn came up with the following design via Kotaku, that takes a smart phone influence to the next level. And I dig it.

A flat design, a glassy surface and a theoretical list of hardware that includes a 5.3 inch screen with full 1080P visuals, 16 gigabytes of memory, 4G connections, 2 GB of RAM and a Quad-Core processor. Sure, it’s all theory, but I like it anyway.

Geoff reckons that it looks too much like a phone, but what the hell, we might as well go all in with such future devices. Slap a Nintendo logo here and you’ve got yourself a dedicated device anyway. The thing is, as much as I like this idea, I know that it’ll never see the light of day.

While Nintendo has a Star Trek record with home console design (Which explains why the Wii U looks like a external hard drive), it’s handheld devices have always been pretty imaginative.

From the original Game Boy through to the first Nintendo DS, they’ve all been aesthetically pleasing bits of hardware. And I’m hoping when they eventually announce a 4DS, it’ll have some more visual charm.

So true. I dont understand why they would think a 3DS is old already when it just recently started to pick up really well over the globe. Nintendo and Sony arent creating mobile phones to up date every so 6 months or 2 years etc etc. So i dont see the point of them announcing a 3DS2 because the console is doing great. WIIU on the other hand needs to either be scraped or release a much needed update to the console plus redesign and then relaunch it.

Indeed. At the very least it’s halfway through the life cycle now. 3DS right now is what’s making Nintendo money
