Competitive Dota at the Liberty LAN

This weekend, some of you may be hunting for Easter Eggs. Instead, the top Dota 2 teams in South Africa will be playing at the Dota 2 Liberty LAN Easter Tournament. You can watch, too – make it part of your Easter family braai.

That’s right, all the action will be available on twitch thanks to Ben “Knoxville” Steenkamp; of course some of you will want to watch in your very own Dota 2 client. Unfortunately, Valve’s Dota 2 team is on annual leave (probably getting much needed rest before The International 4 kicks off) so there isn’t an in-game ticket. However, you can watch the game from steam with the following ID: dota2://accountid=76561197999511289

I have a fair amount of confidence that the event will be well run – it’s being overseen by the admin team from DGL. Of course, they’re also looking for some volunteer admins to help out, so if you want to volunteer and get free entrance, head on over to the LAN Facebook page and give them a shout.

Which teams will be in attendance? They’ve got all the big names in the local Dota scene. Bravado will be sending both their Dota teams, and Energy will also be facing off against them. Liberty Full on Jukes, M21 Alpha, Nazgul Gaming, We Always Troll, Legends of Dota, scream Gaming and Invoke Gaming Blades are among the others. All the action will be going down at Emperor’s Palace.

Prizes for the Dota tournament are way better than those for the Counter Strike: Global Offensive or Call of Duty: Ghosts events – they will also be fun to watch, though, so be sure to head to the event and get involved. So what are the prizes?

  1. R5k cash sponsored by ASUS and 5x SteelSeries Siberia V2 Black non-USB Headset
  2. 5x SteelSeries Kana Mouse – White
  3. 5x SteelSeries Beach Towels

Now before you all laugh, I have one of those SteelSeries beach towels, and I’m sure it will improve your drying performance. Winning is Everything, even on the beach.

Will you be going to Emperor’s Palace this weekend to check out all the action? Don’t be shy – come and support your local eSports athletes.
