Bungie wants you to play Destiny by their rules only

Bungie keeps changing the rules of Destiny

I stopped playing Destiny a long time ago, but I’ve kept my eye on what Bungie has been doing with their ever growing MMO shooter over the past few months. It’s becoming apparent that really high level players are hitting the wall, forcing them to seek out ridiculous challenges and strikes just to stay entertained. That’s included some really entertaining solo Strike runs, which technically shouldn’t be possible within the game’s rules. And now Bungie is making it completely impossible.

Destiny’s 1.1.1 Patch will destroy any hopes of solo weekly Strikes again, as Bungie will implement a matchmaking system that will force players to party up before attempting the Strike. This is going to affect all levels on Weekly Heroic, although Nightfall is remaining untouched. Aside from the fact that this destroys solo runs, it also makes running through a Strike with a single friend impossible, too. Instead, you’ll now have to rope in a third stranger if you’re used to playing in a duo, which is just ridiculous.

What’s even more ridiculous is that matchmaking is still not present in the one place Destiny players actually want it. Bungie has still refused to introduce matchmaking for Raids, stating that they’re more reliant on groups of people who are familiar with each other to play. So if you don’t have a bunch of friends that actively play Destiny with you, you’re just out of luck.

It’s all part of a common trend from Bungie. The studio wants Destiny to be played in a really specific way, and dislikes when players bend the game’s intrinsic rules to discover other gameplay possibilities. It’s baffling why matchmaking in both weekly Strikes and Raids can’t just be made optional. Surely this then hands over more control to players, and allows them to continue coming back every week to play Destiny in the way that suits them best?

Because quite honestly, it’s this sort of stuff that drives people further away, while assuring those looking in from a distance that they’ve made the right call.

No. You and idiots like you are becoming an increasing problem within the gaming community. Everything I buy, I own. I certainly don’t own the IP. I DO own a copy of it. My PS4? I own it. My home? I own it. My car? I think you know where I’m going with this… As long as I don’t ruin the experience for my fellow gamers by cheating, it shouldn’t matter how I play the game. Why? Because I OWN my PHYSICAL copy. I think you need to brush up on your knowledge of the word “lease”. …fucking moron…

Its all a bit ironic – Halo franchise was almost made for speed-running to the extent where even Bungie unofficially condoned it and even the LASO runs with skulls, etc. Now they do this dick move.

Bungie – you being idiotic; the entire way you designed the universe is for people to explore surely and see what they capable of. And from what I can tell only ONE person did it alone on Nightmare. REALLY? One out of what 10 million or something?

Most of my friends stopped playing as well. Which is fine, I don’t blame them. This game has turned into a dud in less than six months. I also soloed the weekly and the nightfall strikes, using various camping spots etc. and I only played them for coins and gear because I have more than enough loot that I’m not using.

So basically Bungie has decided I should fuck off now. The new DLC better give this game an adrenalin shot to the heart or else I might not even bother downloading it. Fuck you season pass.

Exactly – why can I not solo something if I want. Sure its going to be way more difficult but it is surely my choice, not theirs. Playing together is great but getting people together is really hard. Since they joined Activision they have made some weird choices which just isn’t the Bungie I loved. I am not saying Acti to blame but seems a more corporate atmosphere there now than it ever was.

Their sense of fun has just disappeared.

The worst part is I cant have the Necroschasm rifle because I cant raid it on hard alone. Alternatively I can go to what is effectively a dating site for players and try and find people to raid with. I have tried the Venus one with a new group but it was such a shitty experience that I logged out.

Now that’s a great list! 🙂 I’m also keen for the Borderlands Handsome Collection – deliberately stayed away from The Pre-Sequel as I thought it’d make its way to new-gen. Glad BL2 is in that as well – added bonus! 🙂

Screw this game and Bungie. I stopped playing after about a month or so, because I realised that the game that was promised is not the game or the experience they delivered. What about Destiny 2? I won’t get it at all.

Playing GTA at the moment (climbing the LAGZ clan ladder nicely atm) The online portion is so much fun. One thing Destiny could take from GTA is the function where you go on call for either races, team death match or random stuff. Then when something pops up you are pulled into the job and matched with other people.

the devs had a vision of how their game would be played.
but the people disagreed and the butthurt devs who arent having their vision respected are feeling the need to flex their creative muscles.
“artists” are always butthurt when their creativity isnt respected.

Very sad, wonder in what world Bungie life in were you constantly have enough friends willing to play when you have time to play.

Also the reason I did not buy Evolve to much depends on other people being available

all i read from this was “no solo striking”
as someone who played borderlands 99% solo, thats a pretty damn bad idea.
theres forced online, which can be tolerated at times, but forced multiplayer is dumb.

You forget one thing… This is how the industry as a whole is.

Look at Diablo 3 for example.

When a certain set becomes too powerful they will simply nerf it by changing the whole set. Forget that the game is mainly just a co-op game with no real need to “balance” items (I’m sorry but “brawling” in D3 is stupid).

They will simply take the set and change the way it works completely. This is their idea of “making the game more fun”. They won’t simply just add new sets or good legendaries.

The same is true for all other games out there. They’d rather change existing items/mechanics etc

So basically, Destiny is a ‘bad’ because it influences teamwork and playing with friends?
Apparently, to you it makes the game all together unplayable. Who knows? This could have been what Bungie had in mind at launch, playing with friends while doing the weekly strike. but since you can’t and some others are ultrabadass solo players this makes the game horrible right?

          • Hammersteyn

            February 23, 2015 at 08:05

Did you even read the article? They are going to make it so that one cannot solo the weekly anymore. I’m not ultrabaddass or anything my friends just stopped playing. Because it’s the same missions over an over and over. The game, just like Evolve, is perfect if you have 4 or 5 dedicated friends.

            February 24, 2015 at 04:14

I read it, but you’re saying many destiny players are just gonna quit the game because you can’t solo a weekly strike. I don’t believe that is true, but I do agree with the final part of your statement.

Is destiny worth buying? I mean people dig the crap out of this game but I am just worried that online play will be sh$tty especially with our telkom connections. Plus how long will the game be viable for I mean its pretty much purely mp, is there still a lot of appeal and if so how long will it last? Was thinking of waiting for the gotye with the expansions.

Best thing Blizzard did back in the day, was change it so you didn’t have to do your daily heroics every day, but rather had a week period to do 7 heroics. Gave control to the player, which made it so much better for those of us who didn’t live and breathe the game. Taking control away from the player – nooooob move!

Matchmaking should be everywhere so people who aren’t 10 years old can play the raids without having to seek out strangers on some web site. Making it an option would be ok too for those that want to solo. Shouldn’t have to be all or nothing.

I don’t like anything mandatory in games. They should have made matchmaking OPTIONAL for the weekly strike. Glad they didn’t make nightfalls mandatory matchmaking which would be bullshit for reasons any core Destiny player knows. Also, note: weekly strikes and nightfalls are absolutely possible to solo easily…. Someone has soloed the entire hard mode Crota raid…

Matchmaking for the raid would not work. Maybe a rando group of six could do the VoG or CE on normal, but there is no way in hell a rando group of six people could get through CE on hard mode.

There is a big difference between actively seeking out and communicating with random people to play with on an LFG site to do raids with and being matchmade with a bunch of who knows what kinda people who might not communicate at all, be the right level, have the right gear, or know what the fuck they’re doing…..

Playing alone is impossible… I only have one or two friends that play this game… I beat the original story… Now I am level 25 and want to play the add-on’s I downloaded.

Everything now… EVERYTHING… Is geared toward multiple players or requires too high a level… I can’t really do the story mode because it’s leveled way too high… It’s really frustrating.

I enjoy the game… But XBOX & PS4 owners are primarily casual gamers… I do not have fifty friends that want to play this… And don’t even have one that plays at the same time as me.

Sadly, I’m probably going to give up on the game in the next day or two… And I wasted my money on the expansions.
