If you haven’t read it yet, go and take a gander through Gavin’s feature where he had a hands on experience with the upcoming loot-and-shoot FPS title. Borderlands 2 is shaping up rather nicely, and looks to be an even more addictive experience than the original.

Gearbox recently took to the stage at a gaming expo to talk more about the game, what players could expect and all that, but they also had a few surprises up their collective sleeves for the audience in attendance.

Speaking at a panel over the weekend at PAX East 2012 which Gameinformer attended, Gearbox debuted the fifth class for the game, the Mechnomancer, who will be available as post-launch DLC. Currently still in the development phase, the Mechnomancer is a female character who controls a massive robot, known only as D374-TP, or DeathTrap for short.

Gearbox also spoke about how the new characters will have greater customisation options, with interchangeable heads and costumes, earned from levelling up and successfuly completing a mission, while anyone with a save game from the first Borderlands title will automatically receive some exclusive content.

And finally, it seems that the sequel will be joining the Collectors Edition gang, as Gearbox showed off a special edition that comes in a box resembling one of the infamous loot chests, which will retail for around $149.99 in the states. No other details were given to its contents, but it does look like quite the limited edition.

LOOT!

I’ve spent far too many hours just playing around with the original four characters from Borderlands 1, but five? I’m going to have to take a sabbatical from all other games when this releases in September. Hopefully I’ll get to assume direct control of any nearby Claptraps as well with this new class.

Check me out, I’m killin’! I’m killin’!
