bioware

Though the company has a long history, right now the mention of Bioware conjures up images of two things; Mass Effect and Dragon Age; a space themed RPG, and a fantasy one. Last generation, saying Bioware would have mostly brought up Knights of the Old Republic and Baldur’s Gate; A space themed RPG, and a fantasy one.

When poked by Gamasutra, the company revealed that it would like to move beyond the confines of those two genres to broaden its general appeal.

You can imagine the cop drama set in the Mass Effect sort of framework. You can imagine a spy adventure in that context. I think actually that what’s happened is our ability to conceive and understand different game contexts has evolved. Then that starts opening up new platforms into things that are maybe less traditional than we have historically [done].

We’re not confirming anything today, but it’s something we discuss a lot, because one of the things we want to do is really try and broaden our appeal, broaden our reach, sell more units, get more fans.

Hmm..an RPG Spy adventure..that sounds awesome. Wait, didn’t somebody already try that? Ahh yes..too bad it sucked. How about you guys remember that you did actually do something new and interesting last generation, and give us a Jade Empire sequel, mmkay?
