Bioshock movie? Del Toro would dig it

At this point of time Guillermo del Toro isn’t a name you simply won’t recognize. The director has come a far way since he directed the second Blade movie (which wasn’t THAT bad) and has since started fostering a nice legacy with intense hits like Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy. He’s also been spoken here and there about games – famously letting it slip that a Halo movie was in the works, then later (after the movie’s supposed shelving) chatting about how much he’d have loved to helm the project.

Currently, though, he’s busy with other things and has been tied to directing The Hobbit, though that’s just a rumor. In the same post, Del Toro also mentions Bioshock – saying:

“I love BIOSHOCK from a design point of view,” says del Toro. “But Unless its a HELLBOY sequel I am not that eager to engage in another action-oriented movie. Even if the other elements are right. BUT… if I found the right pitch on the material, who knows – the BIOSHOCK universe is indeed wonderful.”

So that means he’s got nothing to do with one, but he thinks a Bioshock movie would be a good idea. Maybe they should hire the set designer from Silent Hill, who you have to admit did a sterling job.

  1. I can’t believe that the same guy who directed the amazing Pan’s Labyrinth also directed Blade 2, yech!

The Bioshock game disappointed me heavily,I mean that game needs a overhaul i think.

That game mite of got 99% rating in the nag magazine but i think it should of got 60% rating.

That game lacks the quality of a GOOD FPS game, that game could of been much better if they used the proper technology available to them at that time. Such a disappointment

[re=11348]David[/re]: Can you please elaborate further on why you think Bioshock needs an overhaul? In my oppinion the game was absolutely beautifull. The gameplay was new and refreshing and the story was gripping. What technology are you talking about? What qualities does a good fps have?

I have to agree, BioShock was easily one of the best games of 2007…

However if you are a fan of the more fast paced Halo/Unreal style then it wouldn’t be the right choice for you

I once read a review complaining that Bioshock didn’t have enough guns and wouldn’t let you carry them all like a ‘proper’ FPS would – talk about missing the game’s point! 🙂

Exactly what do you expect from an FPS? Bioshock is brilliant.

The technology I am talking about is that they should of got a better graphics processing engine, They could of improved the weapons as they were unethical, wat ever that means i don’t know, the concept / idea of the game was good but gameplay NOT up to todays standerds.

Hmmm, the weapons were unethical? Good thing you even admit you don’t know what that means, because that makes no sense. Technically ALL weapons could be unethical. I definitely think the BFG and trip-mines are much more unethical than a shotgun 🙂

As for the engine, that’s Unreal Engine 3. What engine did you have in mind?
