Behold the Nvidia Shield!

Mark my words, 2013 is going to be a great year for consoles. We’ve already got the Wii U (Which is like so 2012 awmahGAWD), and I’d bet my third nipple that we’ll be seeing a new Playstation or Xbox as well. And to further drain your bank account, here’s Nvidia with their very own handheld device.

Announced at their CES press conference, Nvidia is looking to enter that field with a device that boasts the new Tegra 4 mobile chip, according to Kotaku. Code-named the Nvidia Shield, the handheld has around 5-10 hours of battery life, a MicroSD slot, HDMI output and runs on what Nividia calls a “pure” Android operating system.

The screen itself boasts some touchy-feely technology, measures in at 5″ like Geoff and can output video at up to 720P. The Shield can also apparently stream games from PC to the controller itself, or from the PC to a television screen.

And that’s all that we know…for now. Still, it sounds solid, and it looks like it could be a pretty damn good contender to the handheld throne that the PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS are battling over.

Primarily because an Android portable console would actually have regular game releases.
