Battlefield bummer: double XP event postponed

If you forked over the cash for the Battlefield Premium package and were planning on using the scheduled December 2XP Event to do some leveling up in Battlefield 4, you’re out of luck.

According to a banner at the top of the Battlefield 4 Control Room, which was erected to track the issues in this debacle of a launch, the event has been postponed “and will be run at a later date.” We’re simply to “stay tuned for more information.”

Ugh.

A peek at the Battlefield 4 Top Issues Tracker shows a laundry list of problems still persisting with the game, which would seemingly be the reason that the 2XP Event was postponed. I’ve put in close to forty hours in the PlayStation 4 version myself, and fortunately haven’t experienced many of these problems. However, the noted “rubber banding” lag issues (even with top-notch Internet connections), and frame rate drops have certainly been regular occurrences for me – and they’re quite irritating.

The numerous patches across all platforms have done a lot to stabilize the game, and what began as a debilitating number of crashes has dwindled to a seldom occurrence – repairing what was probably the biggest gripe with the launch. Still, the number of issues remaining shows that Battlefield 4 was simply not ready for prime time, and was probably rushed to meet the launch of the new generation of consoles.

It’s difficult to think of a game launch as poor as this one. Even the SimCity and Diablo III launch narratives had dwindled within weeks, while we’re a month and a half out with Battlefield 4 and still talking about it. On one hand, it is great that DICE is dropping everything to fix the problems – but for Battlefield Premium subscribers, that means missing out on scheduled expansion packs, and in this particular case, a sought-after double XP event.

Even in the wake of all of these problems, it’s still one of the best multiplayer shooter experiences I’ve ever had. Please, DICE, keep the pedal to the metal until these issues are fixed. And EA, how about thinking twice before forcing out an unfinished title next time?

I’ve also had very little problems with the PS4 version. My biggest issues so far are bad geometry, so I get stuck or have trouble moving over certain areas where it should be simple, and the games hit detection is crap, especially when compared to PS3.

I love the BF4 on the PS4 at the moment, I have experienced a few of these bugs but I’d much rather they address the missing functionality as well. Joining a friend in game…. I still haven’t figured out that one, it’s pretty irritating

I had the same experience on PS4. Finally had a good amount of time to sit down with it after the holidays and it kinda ruined it for me.
